Korea PhD/Postdoc Openings in Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Plant Biotech

Gyeongsang National University (GNU)
Jinju, Korea

PhD and Postdoctoral positions available

Several PhD and post-doctoral positions are currently available in the National Research Laboratory located at Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Research Center (World Class University (WCU) Program, Brain Korea 21 program) in Gyeongsang National University (GNU), Jinju, Korea.

The postdoctoral candidate will take part in a project "Intercelluar RNA and protein transport through plasmodesmata in plants" in the WCU Program funded by the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF). The project is directed by Prof. Jae-Yean Kim (GNU) and Prof. William J. Lucas (University of California, Davis). Our research goals are to elucidate 1) the function of non-cell-autonomous transcription factors, 2) the mechanisms of cell-to-cell and long-distance trafficking of proteins, 3) the mechanisms by which smRNA spread and induce gene silencing in plants, and 4) the structure and function of plasmodesmata (PD) by characterizing PD components.

The PhD candidate must have strong background in Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Plant Biotechnology or any related discipline. Interested candidates can directly send their applications with scanned copies of all certificates/documents.

The postdoctoral candidate will develop biochemical approaches to study important proteins involved in the mechanism of intercellular transport of protein and RNA molecules. The incumbent will work as a team member to contribute to specific aspects of the above-described projects. Our program has successfully established strong molecular, genetic and cell biological strategies and techniques, in addition to bioinformatics and proteomics tools.

We are seeking a highly motivated and excellent postdoctoral candidate for this program. The successful candidate should have developed a strong biochemistry background in addition to basic molecular biology, and cell biology. English language skills are required. Publications in SCI-listed journals are also a requirement.
