Loni Workshop on Primer Design and RAPD Technique 2011

helpBIOTECH Happy to Announce:

Two days Workshop on Primer Design and RAPD Technique

March 24 -25 , 2011

Organised By

Dept. of Plant Biotechnology,  Pravara Rural Education Society's
College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Loni
in collaboration with

Aristogene Biosciences, Bangalore
SCOPE AND ANNOUNCEMENT:The somber fact of today's agriculture is the growing imbalance between the rate of population growth compared to the rate of growth of food production. With limited land resources, this demands an increase in crop productivity through crop exploitation and manipulation to enhance yield and quality. The rapid pace of development and new challenges in plant sciences has resulted in an increase in demand for high technology in biotechnology, which is an exciting, rapidly developing and revolutionary scientific discipline, with its roots in biological and technological sciences. Biotechnology is having its impact on everyone's life and it is truly regarded as the scientific technology of the twenty first century. Biotechnology is being promoted in the country keeping in view its enormous potential to improve agriculture, food, health, environment and energy requirements of the vast population; to create opportunity for employment generation and to add to the economic progress of the nation through environmentally sustainable industrial development. As we know, there is a fast growth in world population and simultaneously huge demand for food in the near future. With respect to these increasing demands, the farmers world wide will have to increase their food grain production up to 40 % till the year 2020. In view of this, Agricultural Biotechnology will play an important role in meeting the food crisis and demands for other Agricultural products. By organizing this workshop with the theme of “Primer Design and RAPD Technique”, College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Loni, aims to bring Academicians, Researchers and Industry professionals on “One Platform” to share their knowledge and views and generate technically sound and practically equipped work force of budding biotech students and teachers for the further developments in Agriculture. On the occasion of this workshop, College of Agricultural Biotechnology is putting it’s first step to develop linkage with major Biotechnology companies.

Who can attend ?

Staff, Students and Research Scholars from related Institutes. A maximum of 30 participants will be entertained to participate in this workshop. Hence, confirm your participation at the earlist to avoid last day rush.

DESIGN OF WORKSHOP :

1. Primer Design. Primer design in wet lab is a very tedious and time consuming process but with the help of bioinformatics and some software, one can design a primer for PCR within seconds. So in this workshop, you will be designing a primer which will be used for RAPD.
2. RAPD technique which includes PCR, Agarose gel electrophoresis. This Method is popular for comparing the DNA of biological system that have not had the attention of the scientific community. Participants will have to work individually and there will be no groups for performing the practical work.
