APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE Ph. D. PROGRAMME FOR THE ACADEMIC SESSION 2011, AUTUMN SEMESTER
Eligibility:
The qualification for the Ph.D. programme is Masters degree from any recognized University/Institute or its equivalent. Final year Masters students who are yet to obtain their degree may also appear in the admission procedure. At the time of admission only candidates with a M.Sc. degree or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks in the subject concerned will be considered. However, for candidates awaiting their results, provisional admission with special permission of the Director may be allowed. Only candidates who have qualified in the UGC/CSIR NET JRF or have other equivalent fellowship like DBT, ICMR, INSPIRE, NBHM and ICAR etc are eligible to apply.

When to apply:
For the Autumn Session (starts from August), the complete application for the Ph.D. programme must reach IISER-Kolkata latest by April 20, 2011.

Selected candidates for test/interview should bring a hard copy of application along with the required documents listed below at the time of test/interview:
Attested copies of mark sheets and certificates of all examinations starting from high school leaving, two letters of recommendation (in sealed envelopes) and a statement of purpose (not exceeding 300 words).
Selection procedure: List of shortlisted candidates (based on merit, subject specialization and required research area) for Test/Interview will be published in the IISER-Kolkata website tentatively on May 15, 2011. The test/interview will be held tentatively on 7th and 8th June, 2011. The selected candidates will receive the offer letter containing also the last date for joining shortly after the interview.
Subjects offered (Subject to revision from time to time) :
Biological Sciences (in the research area of Marine Biology, Developmental Biology, Structural & Molecular Biology, Behavioural Biology & Ecology, and Molecular Cell Biology, Theoretical Biophysics, Computational Biology, Microbiology), Chemical Sciences (Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry), Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences or Statistics and Physical Sciences.
Course Work and laboratory Rotation :
The Research fellows will have to do course work and laboratory rotations during first six months. The course content will be decided by the department concerned for each student according to his / her need. Ph. D. Supervisor will be selected only after the course work/Laboratory rotation.
