Course Contents (Both Theory and Practical)
• Role of livestock in global warming.
• Contribution of Indian Livestock towards GHG’s in National inventories.
• Methodologies for estimation of methane in dairy animals under In-vivo conditions.
• Methane production and hydrogen sinks in the rumen.
• Rumen microbes involved in digestive Hydrogen metabolism.
• Mitigation scenarios for methane emission from ruminants.
• Approaches for methane mitigation in dairy animals under Indian context.
• In-vitro technique for estimation of methane and other rumen fermentation parameters.
• SF6 and other techniques for estimation of methane production in field conditions.
• Molecular techniques for diversity analysis and identification of methanogens (collection of rumen liquor ,isolation of total gDNA ,PCR amplification of gDNA with specific primers and gene cloning strategies for studying diversity etc).
• Cultivation of rumen microbes using Hungate Roll tube method.
• Real time quantification of methanogens and other group of rumen microbes.
Faculty details
Resource persons are from both International (INRA, France) and Scientists from ICAR Institutes and SAU’s.
Number and eligibility of participants
Fifteen participants will be selected for the training from the applicants with
• Master’s Degree in the area of Animal sciences or Animal nutrition /Microbiology /Biotechnology/Physiology, preferably with some teaching/research experience.
• Working not below the rank Scientist / Assistant Professor or equivalent in the concerned subject with ICAR institute / Agriculture University.
• Preference will be given to those working in the above mentioned area.

Travel and Accommodation
Accommodation will be provided in NDRI Guest House by the organizers on room sharing basis and wholesome simple vegetarian meals will be served. The participants will be paid travel fare for to and fro journey by rail/Bus/public transport by the shortest route as per their entitlement, but restricted to AC II tier train fare (on producing proof of travel).
