helpBIOTECH Happy to Announce:
National Workshop on “Modern Tools and Methodology in Neurotoxicology in- cluding Metallomics”
March 25-27,2011
Dept. of Pharmacology and Environmental
Toxicology. Dr.ALM.PGIBMS, Taramani, Chennai,
Dr. ALM PostGraduate Institute of Basic Medical Scienc- es was started in the year 1969 by one of the Doyen of Medical education in the Country Sir.Dr. A.Lakshmanasamy Mudaliar. His aim was to develop research in basic medical Sciences in the State. The De- partment of Pharmacology and Environmental Toxicolo- gy established in 1976, is involved in the promotion of academic and research activities in both the disciplines.
In 2007, The Department of Science and Technology under the DPRP- TDT, New Delhi sanctioned a grant of Rs 5.22 Crores for Establishment of a “National Facil- ity on Neurotoxicity Research to Assist Drug Development” to facilitate creation of infrastructural facilities to assist the development of a new drugs which involves various phases of preclinical and clinical re- search. Neurotoxicological studies form a pivotal role to prove the new drug is neuro-safe. Avoiding toxicity and minimizing unavoidable side effects are very essen- tial in introducing a new drug. Most important of all toxicity testing is neurotoxicity assessment.
The classical example of thalidomide toxicity exemplifies the sig- nificance of neurosafety evaluation. Our vision of pro- moting health care by neurosafe drugs and nutraceuticals can be accomplished through pre- clinical neurotoxicity testing by advanced tech- niques and appropriate evaluation procedures. With this in view the present National Workshop on “Modern Tools and Methodology in Neurotoxicology in- cluding Metallomics” is envisaged to train Manpow- er in this field of research. Training will be imparted for implementing modern tools and methodologies in neu- rotoxicity screening of various Indian system of Medi- cines as well as new chemical entities.
1.Neurotoxicity/ neurosafety assessment of a Drug / chemical by Animal studies, Tissue experiments and Cell culture studies.
2. Behavioural effects in animals using Functional Observational Battery (FOB)
3. Neurochemical Endpoints of Neurotoxic ity Assessment by Alterations in synthesis, release, uptake and degradation of neuro-Transmitters.
4. Structural neuropathological endpoints of Neurotoxicity:including Ultrastructural changes. Dose-Response Evaluation with reference to neurological effects.
3. Neurochemical Endpoints of Neurotoxic ity Assessment by Alterations in synthesis, release, uptake and degradation of neuro-Transmitters.
