An exciting opportunity in science for inquisitive young minds Scientific and technological innovations are the key drivers for growth and economic prosperity of a nation. In the 21st century, as basic and applied sciences converge, there is an immediate need to train competent researchers. Towards this, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has set up 5 Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram at a cost of Rs. 500 crores each.

Cources offered :

* 5 year BS-MS dual degree with major in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. IISER Kolkata offers major in Earth sciences also.
* Ph.D. degree in all frontier areas of Science and Mathematics
* Integrated Ph.D. program for students after B.Sc. (only at IISER Kolkata, coming up in other IISERs)

Eligibility for applying:
 
Students obtaining a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and securing a rank in the regular merit list.

State/Central Boards
 
(a) School Boards results expected: Mid June 2011
(b) IISER application window : 15th June – 8th July 2011
(c) Aptitude test & counseling: 16th July 2011

Eligibility for applying:
 
Students qualifying in Class XII in 2010 or 2011 in Science Stream. The cut-off percentage for INSPIRE fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to be used for the boards for Class X and XII are given in http://www.inspire-dst.gov.in/Inspire-Advertisement.pdf. For OBC (non-creamy) a 5% relaxation of the DST cut-off is tenable. The cut-off for SC/ST is 60% in Class X and Class XII for all boards. All state/central board students must also qualify in the IISER Science Aptitude Test.

Reservation policy of Government of India will be followed for admission to IISERs.

Note: A student may apply through one or more channels.
