OBJECTIVES
In the light of aforesaid views, the major objectives of the training course are:
• To acquaint participants about the recent advances in marker assisted breeding.
• To acquaint participants with appropriate tools and techniques for efficient and effective utilization of molecular markers in breeding of vegetable crops.

CONTENTS
The following broad themes will constitute the training course:
• Historical aspects of vegetable breeding
• Development of Molecular markers
• Development of mapping populations
• Mapping/tagging of genes and QTLs
• Marker assisted breeding: techniques and tools
• Plant Varieties Protection (PVP) and IPR issues
• Development of Molecular markers
• Development of mapping populations
• Mapping/tagging of genes and QTLs
• Marker assisted breeding: techniques and tools
• Plant Varieties Protection (PVP) and IPR issues
The training course will consist of a blend of lectures, interactive discussion, hands on experience (exercises) and one study visit.
Focus will be on statistical analysis and interpretation of results based on actual experiments and data.
DURATION
Fourteen days from 23rd May to 5th June 2011.
FACULTY DETAILS
Resource persons will be from both international (South East Missouri State University, USA) and national (ICAR, CSIR, DBT, SAUs and other universities)
ELIGIBILITY
Participation in this training course will be :
• Masters Degree in Plant Breeding/Genetics/Biotechnology / Horticulture / Vegetable Science, specialization in vegetable crops.
• Working not below the rank of Assistant Professor and equivalent in the concerned subject under Agricultural UniversityllCAR Institute.
• Working not below the rank of Assistant Professor and equivalent in the concerned subject under Agricultural UniversityllCAR Institute.
NOMINATIONS
Directors of ICAR Institutes and Vice-Chancellors of State Agricultural Universities can nominate one or two participants. The last date for receiving the nomination is April 31", 2011. The selected candidates will be intimated by 5" May 2011 through email / speed post.
TA/DA
The participants will be paid travel fare to and fro journey by rail or bus or other means of transport in vogue in the case may be, on production of certificate for travel by the shortest route. The payment will be made as per their entitlement class of travel but restricted to AC II train fare. Participants are required to produce a Photostat copy of the rail / bus ticket (only by public transport) for reimbursing the travel expenditure. In lieu of incidental charges, DA will be rei mbursed as per ICAR rules.
BOARDING AND LODGING
Participants will be provided rent free accommodation in the guesthouse of IIVR, wholesome meals and refreshment as per the normal rules of the training course. Local participants will be provided with lunch and inter-sessions tea only.
