The science of Molecular Biology is concerned with forms of molecules and with evolution, exploitation and ramification of these forms in the ascent to higher and higher levels of organization. The emerging technologies and related developments in Molecular Biology offer immense potentials for a developing country like India.

M.Sc.Molecular Biology is sponsored by UGC,New Delhi under its innovative programmes in Emerging Areas.The course is designed to meet the needs of the students for a career in research in advanced areas of Biology.
♣ Curriculum
The curriculum provides a broad based education in Biology at molecular level and designed to stretch the understanding and skills of the students to a greater level with substantial inputs of practicals.The syllabus includes papers such as Biology of cell,Biochemistry of Biomolecules,Microbiology,Immunology as well as Molecular Biology, Microbial Genetics, Gene cloning, Genetic Engineering, Proteomics and Geneomics, Bioinformatics and Medical Molecular Biology.
♣ Qualified and Experienced Faculty
The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty members to impart the required knowledge.
♣ Well equipped,state of art laboratory
The Department of Molecular Biology has imported an advanced model of PCR from Eppendorf,Germany at a cost of Rs.6,25,000/. Bishop Heber Collge,Trichy is the first college in this region to get the Mastercycler Pro S , an advanced model of PCR from Eppendorf ,Germany.The Department also has an imported UV-Visible Spectrophotometer from Ms.Jasco Intertnational Ltd.,Japan at a cost of Rs.7.5 lakhs.The Department has also got a new Gel Documentation System from Ms.Alpha Innotech,USA at a cost of Rs.4.6 lakhs and the Motic Digital Microscope from Germany has a high resolution CCD camera built-in and with the software Motic images 2000.Thus,the Department now is equipped with instruments worth Rs.30 lakhs and geared up to impart advance training in the field of Molecular Biology to the students.
Hands on training in Proteomics(PAGE,SDS-PAGE,2D and Documentation), Geneomics (RAPD,RFLP,Cloning and Expression studies), Biochemistry and Enzymology,Microbial and Molecular Genetics is given to the students.
♣ Institutional Visits
The students will have opportunities to visit the National Research Laboratories and Premier Institutions as part of the curriculum.
♣ Students exchange programmes
The College has MOU with a number of Foreign Universities like Liverpool Hope University, UK,Wolverhampton University,UK.,Appalachian State University,USA and MAHE,Dubai etc. and students will have opportunities to visit these Universities under the Student Exchange Programmes.
♣ Coaching for CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF and other competitive exams
The curriculum is designed in such a way to help the students to be successful in the competitive exams like CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF,IIsc Bangalore,NCBS,Bangalore,DAE-BARC Scientist exam and GATE. Coaching classes will be conducted to the needy students.
Eligibility: B.Sc.Botany / Zoology / Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Microbiology / Bioinformatics and other life sciences with atleast 50% marks.
