IBAB Bangalore Invites Application for Internship/Projects in Biotech/Bioinformatics

Following is the description of the

a) projects/internships available with some of the IBAB faculty members and
b) the procedure to apply.

Wet-lab projects (Dr. Bibha)

Dr.Srivatsan & Dr.Sudesh)
Stem cell biology (Dr. Bibha)
Biostatistics (Dr.Srivatsan & Dr.Sudesh)
Genomics / transcriptomics (Dr. Subha & Dr. Kshitish)
Biomarker discovery (Dr. Kshitish)

GENERAL NOTES on application for internships: (see below for more details on ‘how to apply’)

Last date to apply for the first batch: 30 August 2011 (but seats would be filled on a first come-first serve basis).

Latest start date: As per your college/department schedule, but earlier the better. But Dr. Sudesh’s projects must begin latest by September 15, 2011.

Minimum duration: 6 months in all cases, except the projects with Dr. Sudesh, where the duration is the total duration would be 3-4 months. In other cases your college/department does not allow you to do a longer project, you may be allowed to take up a shorter project of 3-5 months, submit the project to your college/department; but you have to complete the 6 months duration after the final exam/viva break.

Fees/stipend: No fees need to be paid by students nor will the institute pay any stipend to them. [For the online test screening an application processing fees of Rs.500/- will have to be paid]

Selection process: For most of the faculty members the first screening will be done by an online entrance test* (see the procedure below), which can be taken from any place (a computer shop or even your home) with a good computer and internet.

The test is easy to take with basic objective type questions and is designed to reduce your burden of traveling and other efforts. The short-listed candidates might be interviewed over phone. In a few cases, the short-listed candidates may be called to IBAB campus for a personal interview.

*Procedure for applying for online test:

1. Pay Rs.500/- towards by DD or NEFT (this is electronic transfer, quicker and cheaper
than DD) National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) is a simple process of transferring money. It is quick and cheaper than DD. You can contact your bank for the procedure. Just tell them that you want to pay Rs.500/- application fees to the account with following details (you may want to write this down or print and carry with you). Don’t forget to obtain the NEFT number for the transaction.

2. Send an email (to shodhaka@ibab.ac.in )with the following information:

a) NEFT number (or the DD number)
b) Bank name and the branch
c) City of the bank
d) Date of the DD/NEFT
e) Your full name
f) Your current course (if you have already completed the course and looking for internship for experience, enter the details of your last course)
g) Expected date of final exam of your current course
h) Approximate date of your project start date according to your college/department schedule (e.g. 10-20 December 2011 or last week of January 2012)
i) Duration of the project before the expected submission date.
j) Your alternative email id
k) Your residential phone number
l) Your mobile phone number

m) THE NAME OF THE FACULTY of your preference (if you want to enter more than one faculty, please write them in the order of preference) - and attach your latest CV.

One time payment of Rs.500/- is enough for any number of faculty/project applications.

You are encouraged to apply in groups so that you can save time in money transfers. For example, 5 persons can send one DD (or make one NEFT transcation) of Rs.2500/-. But each applicant must send a separate email to shodhaka@ibab.ac.in along with the above information. Please do NOT send emails to any other ids.

You will have to make your own arrangements for traveling and accommodation when
called for the interviews.

*The online test is being conducted by Shodhaka Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd . This is a young
