TIFR Scientific Assistant Opening in Biochemistry/Mass Spectrometry

Applications are invited for the following posts tenable at Mumbai :

1.

SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANT (B) : One Post [Reserved for Other Backward Class] ; Pay Band : (PB-2) Rs.9300-34800 + Grade Pay : Rs.4200/- ; TME : Rs.27,908/- ; HQ : Mumbai.

Qualification : i) B.Sc. in Life Sciences or Chemistry with minimum 60% marks. (ii) Knowledge of use of computers and its applications.

Desirable Qualification : The candidate should have a bachelor degree in life sciences or chemistry with prior knowledge of analytical tools such as chromatography or protein purification techniques.

Experience : 0-2 years experience in handling protein analytical tools/protein purification/chromatography/ HPLC.

Desirable Experience : Although not mandatory, candidates with experience in protein chemistry and/or HPLC/mass spectrometry (MS) will be preferred.

Job Requirements : (i) The selected candidate will carryout protein analysis including Mass Spectrometry. (ii) The job involves performing various protein separation techniques and analyzing protein modifications and identification of proteins using MS/MS analysis.

The selected candidate will have to perform analysis including Mass Spectrometry and will also be responsible and contribute towards running and maintaining the MS facility in DBS.

Age : Below 31 years.

PROJECT ASSISTANT : One Post [Unreserved] (temporary for a period of three years) ; Consolidated Salary : Rs.17,000/- p.m. (all inclusive) ; HQ : Mumbai.

Qualification : B.Sc. with 60% marks OR S.S.C./H.S.C. and Diploma in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Science or equivalent qualification with 60% marks.

Desirable Qualification : Candidate having hands on experience in Linux and a certification will be given weightage. Candidates with less than 60% marks and having 1 to 2 years experience in systems and network administration in small to medium enterprise may be considered, if suitable candidate is not found.

Nature of work : To administer and support a large user base of 1000, for any IT related service requests. Should be able to manage Linux servers and handle users request for virus curing and other issues. Should have knowledge in managing mail, web servers and web applications hosted on Linux platform. Candidate should have knowledge of IP addressing and various network topologies.

Selected candidate should be willing to work in shifts. At present there are two shifts 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.

Age : Below 28 years.

WORK ASSISTANT : Four Posts [3-Scheduled Tribe & 1-Persons with Disabilities] ; Pay Band : (PB-1) Rs.5200-20200 + Grade Pay : Rs.1800/- ; TME : Rs. 13,576/- ; HQ : Mumbai.

Qual : S.S.C. OR Equivalent.

Exp. : Minimum one year experience in Plumbing/Masonry/Mechanical/Carpentry. Candidate should possess good health and will be required to assist senior Tradesman.

Age : Below 33 years in case of Scheduled Tribe candidates and below 38 years in case of Persons with Disabilities candidates.

TME : Total Monthly Emoluments.

Higher starting salary could be considered for deserving candidates. Candidates are liable to be transferred to other Centres/Field Stations of the Institute, if required.

General Information : Appointment for the post at sr.no. 1 will be initially for a period of three years, including probation period of one year. Continuing appointment beyond the initial period of three years will be subject to the results of a comprehensive review and performance appraisal. After successful review, the appointment is continued till superannuation age, which is sixty.

Prescribed age should not exceed as on January 1, 2012.

Selected candidates for the posts at sr.no. 1 & 3 will be governed by the New Pension Scheme applicable to the Central Government service [unless they are already governed by CCS (Pension) Rules 1972].

Post for general category (unreserved) – SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates can also apply.

Applicants who do not send their applications through proper channel and applicants who do not submit a valid copy of OBC certificate in the Govt. of India format, if called, will be interviewed only upon submission of an NOC from the competent authority and/or valid OBC certificate in Govt. of India format, prior to the interview.

Candidates applying for reserved post for persons with disability should be suffering from not less than 40% of the relevant disability for the benefit of reservation. Candidates will have to submit a Disability Certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format.

Outstation candidates called for interview for the posts at sr.no. 1 & 2 will be paid single Second Class return train fare and outstation ST candidates called for interview will be paid single second class return train fare for the journey by the shortest route from the nearest railway station of their place of residence to the place of interview, however, ST candidates will have to bear the fare for the first 30 kms. both ways on the production of photocopies of onward and return journey tickets.

The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates for interview to a reasonable limit on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement. Mere fulfilling the essential and desirable qualifications will not entitle an applicant to be called for interview. More vacancies may also be filled through this advertisement.
