KALASALINGAM UNIVERSITY WORKSHOP ON ANIMAL CELL CULTURE TECHNIQUES 2012

WORKSHOP ON ANIMAL CELL CULTURE TECHNIQUES

Organized by
DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
KALASALINGAM UNIVERSITY

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Animal Cell Culture technology is one of the important technologies now being applied in various fields from clinical research to production of diverse products. In today’s world with a wide spectrum of diseases, there is a need to understand the mechanism of diseases at the molecular level and to find therapies for them.

This necessitates the need for culturing animal/human cells in vitro. Besides, various pharmaceutical and industrially important products are produced from animal cells, which demands a knowledge of cell culture techniques.

This course aims at providing hands-on training in culturing animal cells to students who would like to use animal cell culture in their research or take up careers in modern biology/biotechnology.

TECHNIQUES TO BE COVERED

Aseptic techniques

Preparation of cell culture media and reagents

Isolation and establishment of primary cell cultures (Chick and Mouse embryo fibroblast)

Isolation and culturing of Lymphocytes

Techniques for Gene Transfer in animal cells

Cell based assays and Toxicity Monitoring
