Training programme on ‘Molecular techniques in Microbiology’
A training programme on ‘Molecular techniques in Microbiology’ will be conducted at the Department of Agricultural Microbiology, College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara from 07.05.2012 to 19.05.2012.
The programme will include hands on training in various molecular techniques like nucleic acid isolation, primer designing, PCR, SDS PAGE, transformation, genetic fingerprinting by RAPD and Rep- PCR, Bioinformatics tools-phylogenic analysis, gene mining, molecular visualization tools etc.
Course fee is Rs. 6,000/-.
Lecturers and post graduate students in biological sciences (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Biochemistry) are eligible to apply.
TRAINING SYLLABUS
Isolation of nucleic acids-DNA and RNA, Primer designing, degenerate primers, calculation of annealing temperature, Isolation of nucleic acids, quantification, detection of quality and quantity, agarose gel electrophoresis, Gene amplification through PCR. Gene cloning, ligation of insert in vector, preparation of competent cells, transformation, recombinant selection, blue white screening, Confirmation of
recombination-PCR with specific and universal primers, restriction analysis, Plasmid isolation, Bioinformatics tools.
