Applications are invited for the following positions in the Research project entitled, “Preventing extinction and improving conservation status of threatened plants through application of biotechnological tools” sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi. Applications should reach Prof. S.K. Barik (Project Coordinator), Department of Botany, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong latest by 20th April, 2012.
Junior Research Fellow (JRF) (2 positions)
Pay scale: (Rs. 16000+ 20% HRA for 1st& 2nd years; Rs. 18000+ 20% HRA for 3rd, 4th& 5th Years)
Duration: 5 years (the appointment is co-terminus with the project)
Essential Qualification:
1. M.Sc in Botany/Life Science/Plant molecular biology/Biotechnology
2. NET (JRF)
(Non-NET (JRF) candidates may be appointed @Rs. 12,000/- + 20% HRA p.m.)
Sub-project 2
Junior Research Fellow (JRF) (2 positions)
Pay scale: (Rs. 16000+ 20% HRA for 1st& 2nd years; Rs. 18000+ 20% HRA for 3rd, 4th& 5th Years)
Duration: 5 years (the appointment is co-terminus with the project)
Essential Qualification: 1. M.Sc in Botany/Life Science/Plant molecular biology/Biotechnology

Sub-project 15
Research Scientist 'B' (1 position)
Pay scale: (Pay Band 3 + Grade Pay 5400+ Allowances as applicable)
Duration: 5 years (the appointment is co-terminus with the project)
Essential Qualification: Ph.D in Botany/Ecology
Desirable: Post doctoral research experience with technical expertise in Ecological Niche Modelling and other modeling techniques, macro propagation and population survey.
Research Assistants (RA) (2 positions – One at Shillong and One in Delhi)
Pay scale: (Rs. 12000/- PM (Fixed) for 1st& 2nd Year & Rs. 14000/- PM for 3rd, 4th& 5th Year)
Duration: 5 years (the appointment is co-terminus with the project)
Essential Qualification: Graduate with diploma/certificate in computer applications.
Desirable: At least 2 years of experience in data handling and management in the field of research/ management/coordination work.
