ANIL NEERUKONDA EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY (ANES) has been founded by Dr. N. B. R. Prasad, an NRI Philanthropist from USA, and Sri Vasireddy Thapovardhan, an industrialist and eminent educationist in memory of late Anil Neerukonda, son of the Chairman Dr. N.B.R.Prasad. Working with missionary zeal, relentless commitment and strong financial backing, Dr. Prasad, along with his friends, planned and completed a $6 million Venkateswara Temple in Greater Chicago, and this modern temple of higher education “Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology & Sciences (ANITS)” in Visakhapatnam in the year 2001.
The Department of Biotechnology started at ANITS during the academic year 2002-2003. The B.Tech Biotechnology programme which is affiliated to Andhra University was approved by the AICTE. In the year 2008-09, the National Board of accreditation (NBA) accredited the department. So far seven batches of students have passed out with good results and most of them are pursuing their higher studies programs in India and abroad. This year M.Tech Biotechnology has been approved by the AICTE with an intake of 18 seats under the affiliation of Andhra University.
The Department has well experienced, highly qualified and dedicated faculty members who encourage students to achieve their career goals. The department has well equipped laboratories in the fields of Microbiology and Bio-Chemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology, Plant Tissue Culture, Fermentation Technology, Bio-Process Engineering, Heat and Mass Transfer and Process dynamics.
The Department continuously interacts with industries and national institutes in and around Andhra Pradesh which provide berths to students to carry out live projects and industrial training. Specialized subject experts who have been stalwarts in the field of activity are invited to provide honorary guest lectures. The department regularly organizes seminars and workshops for the development of students both technically and professionally.
Students of B.Tech Biotechnology have been actively participating in various curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and secured many achievements including Indian academy of sciences summer research fellowships, off campus selections and campus selections for placements.
Eligibility Criteria: Any person who passed / appearing final year B.Tech. Chemical Engineering, B.Tech. Bio-Technology/ or its equivalent, AMIE (Chem.), Bio Chemical Engineering, B.Pharmacy from any recognized university as defined by UGC/AICTE. The candidate should have obtained at least 55% marks at the qualifying examination.
