Bhartiya Vigyan Sammelan and Expo 2012 jointly organized by Vijnana Bharati, Punjab Technical University Jalandhar (PTU) and Lovely Professional University Phagwara (LPU) in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), is scheduled to be held in LPU Campus from Oct 11 to 14, 2012.
This Sammelan will bring together not only scientists, technocrats, academicians, policy makers, research scholars and students from “structured organizations,” but also innovative farmers, technicians and artisans, which is a unique feature of this scientific conference. Contributed papers, in various Indian languages, will be presented in “oral/poster/round-table discussion” format during technical sessions while several “plenary sessions” are planned where the experts will give state-of-the-art presentations on the topics relevant to Global community in general and to Indian science and technology in particular. One of the plenary sessions will be devoted to discussing the issues and challenges relevant to the Punjab State. Also, a scientific expo is planned to showcase not only the scientific achievements of our country but also the “innovative technologies / ideas” relevant to our farmers, technicians and artisans.
BVS 2012 is the 3rd conference preceded by the 1st Sammelan (BVS 2007) held at Bhopal in 2007 and 2nd (BVS 2009) at Indore in 2009. BVS 2007 (dedicated to Nobel Laureate C V Raman) was held under the Chairmanship of Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, then Chairman, ISRO and was graced by Honorable Dr. A.P.J. Kalam, eminent scientist and ex-President of India. The invited talks, contributed papers and expo-exhibits presented at the Sammelan generated a treasure-house of scientific documentation on research papers presented in various Indian languages. BVS 2009 (dedicated to Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose) was held under the Chairmanship of Padamashri Dr Vijay Bhatkar. More than 600 contributed research papers in engineering, technology, basic sciences were received in various Indian languages. These contributed papers covered a wide range of topics like information and communication technologies, Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Energy, Water and Disaster Management, Rural Technology, cutting edge technologies, basic sciences, health and medical sciences, etc. The papers were presented in about 30 oral sessions and more than 10 poster sessions. In addition, government sponsored “mid-day meal scheme” featured among the topics discussed.
