BTISnet TRAINING on “In Silico Characterization of Proteins from Sequences and Molecular Modeling Approaches”
November 7–9, 2012
Organized by
BIOINFORMATICS INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITY
College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Guwahati-22
The training has been organized with a view to introduce the basic concept of in silico characterization of protein sequences to understand their structure and functions using free online servers and offline tools. The training programme is designed to commence with application of various online and offline tools to analyze the protein sequences and then to provide preliminary knowledge on protein structure modelling, protein–protein interactions, protein–drug interactions and so on.
To deliver theoretical lectures as well as to conduct the hands-on sessions, a few resource persons have been invited from reputed institutions of the North Eastern Region like IIT, Guwahati, Mizoram University and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Guwahati. The members of the Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility and the State Biotech Hub, Assam will assist and help the participants to facilitate the programme.
Lectures:
• Introduction to Biological Databases.
• Basics of Sequence Analysis: Introduction to BLASTp, ClustalW.
• Phylogenetic Analysis of Biological Sequences.
• Phylogenomic Approach to Bacterial Classification.
• PDB: In silico Characterization of Protein Sequences using Expasy Online Resources
PROTPARAM, ProtScal, ImmunoDB, etc.
• Protein Structure Prediction: Ab initio to Homology
(introduction ab inito methods, secondary structure prediction), threading/fold recognition,
comparative/homology modeling.
• Protein–Protein Interaction and Molecular Docking.
• Protein–Drug interaction Studies (AutoDock hands-on).
Hands-on Sessions: Biological Databases, Sequence Analysis, Phylogenetic analysis, Usage of Expasy tools, Protein structure prediction, Protein–protein and protein–drug docking
