Background and scope Herbalism or medicinal botany is a traditional medicinal practice based on the use of plants and plant extracts. India's rich flora is in long use in traditional medicinal system. Thus, the need of the hour is to discover and scientifically validate the folk herbal knowledge. The therapeutic value of the phytomedicines cannot be underestimated and a proper rationalization of scientific protocol is required in the direction of phytomedical research. The isolation, characterization of active constituents and studying their mode of action goes hand in hand with the use of traditional and modern lab techniques along with computational approaches. The interdisciplinary role in medicinal research makes it a promising and yet-to-be explored field.

Objectives of the National Seminar cum Workshop

The present seven-day NSWFB'13 aims at making the participants understand the present scenario in Herbalism and provide a common platform to facilitate brief sharing of knowledge which in turn will give a proper focus directed towards the herbal research.

Technical Sessions

• Isolation and purification of phytocompounds
• Structure elucidation and instrumentation
• Bioassay and animal studies
• Bioinformatics databases, tools, software for drug designing
