Background The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India has been pleased to set up Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) in the Gauhati University, Guwahati Assam in February; 2008.The centre is a member of Northeastern Bioinformatics network (NEBInet) and Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet).

The Centre’s facilities include dedicated lease line Internet connectivity from BSNL, DELL servers with DELL PCs with LINUX and Microsoft Windows operating system, HP Printers, Xerox etc. and major Bioinformatics tools.

Objectives To create awareness towards application of bioinformatics among college/university teachers and Researcher in biological sciences.

Course Contents of the Training Course Bioinformatics overview, Biological Databases & information retrieval, visualization softwares, PCR primer designing, ePCR, molecular docking, Biostatistics, Genomics & Proteomics, Comparative Genomics, System Biology, Sequence analysis using BLAST and phylogeny prediction and application of bioinformatics in day to day research in life sciences (as per the degree syllabus of the university).

Faculty Faculty for the Training Course will include eminent guest speakers from Gauhati University and neighbouring institutions working in the field of Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Structural Biology.

Methodology Lectures, Demos, Hands on Session, Workshop and Seminar.

Level of participants College/ University Teachers, Researchers.

Prerequisites Basic knowledge of computers.

Number of participants Number of participants will be restricted to 15.

Accommodation Participants are requested to arrange their own accommodation.

Location The University Campus is 12 km away from the Guwahati Railway Station and 10km from Guwahati Airport.
