M.Sc., Marine biotechnology, is a premier post graduate degree course offered by Department of Marine biotechnology, School of Marine Science, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli- 620 024, which through's light upon basic and transitional research in marine biotechnology and marine molecular biology. The mission of the department is to create an arena for bio prospecting of marine organisms through innovative teaching and research. The department is one of the pioneers in Marine Biotechnological research in the country, and aspires to provide value based education, with commitment to academic excellence. The course is run in collaboration with National Facility for Marine Cyanobacteria and Bioinformatics Centre, funded by DBT, Govt of India, New Delhi.

The course trails a choice based credit system with appreciable academic Flexibility to provide world class information and exposure to students. The specialty of the course is - hands on training in Biological oceanography, Marine Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Aquaculture and Bioinformatics. The curriculum is centered on DBT- Biotechnology syllabus, which expedited our students to crack the competitive exams and be placed in recognized research positions. Our course curriculum gives equal emphasis to both academic and job oriented needs. Our students are encouraged for summer training/projects and need to undergo a dissertation for six months period in renowned national institutes and Universities.
The department offers a Self-study review paper, which is unique of its kind. Experienced faculties, high volume bio molecular instrumentation like PCR, GC, HPLC etc., regular field visits to explore rich marine bodies.

Eligibility:

Bachelor Degree from recognized universities in any branch of life sciences or as allied subject with not less than 55%. Candidates waiting for final results also can apply.
