A Science Academies Refresher Course on ‘Updates on Biology of Infectious Diseases’ for graduate and postgraduate teachers will be held at the Haffkine Institute for Training, Research and Testing, Mumbai for two weeks from 22 September to 5 October 2013.
The objectives of this Course are to update the participants about developments in the field of infectious diseases and to give hands-on training on some modern biotechnological practices. A variety of teaching methods like lectures, discussion and laboratory work shall facilitate the learning process. The Course will consist of lectures along with hands-on training/demonstration. This would enhance their knowledge about advances in the area of infectious diseases and sharpen their skills in the current technology applied for diagnosis and research. This training will also boost their confidence in handling modern instruments. They will have an opportunity to get acquainted with the state-of-art equipment used in this field. The Course would enable them to fulfill their role as teachers more effectively.
Teachers in undergraduate/postgraduate colleges/universities/academic or research institutes may apply for the Course. The application may be sent on plain paper (2–3 pages) or by e-mail with following details: name, age, date of birth, gender, e-mail, official and residential addresses, telephone and mobile numbers, academic qualifications from B.Sc. onwards, teaching experience, courses taught, position held and a statement indicating their reasons for participating in the Course and their expectations from the Course (in brief). The application should be forwarded through the Head of the Department/Institution. Fifteen outstation and five local teachers will be selected. The outstation candidates will be provided with accommodation and round trip bus/train fare (3-tier AC) by the shortest route.
