MGDC is organizing three 1O day Workshop during (i) 2 -11 October, 2013, (ii) 18 - 2 7 D ec, 2013 (iii) 1- 1 0 Apr, 2014
INTRODUCTION
MGDC has been established by DZF, to motivate the teachers and students in India to take to “alternatives” in the place of animals in life science / biomedical science education / research along the lines of 3R’s principles of replacement, reduction and refinement.
Advancements in cell culture have given researchers a viable alternative and/or complement to live animal testing. In vitro investigations in specialized cell cultures have been used to clarify the mechanism of toxic action of chemicals on a particular target organ. The focus is on the cellular models to study chemical toxicity at specific end points, at levels including molecular, and the extrapolation of data thus obtained to human. Thus, in vitro toxicology can potentially replace animal use in pharmacology/Toxicological evaluations to a very great extent.
With the success of the past 12 in vitro workshops and the overwhelming responses from all around the country, MGDC organizes the forthcoming workshops. The goal of this workshop is to train the participants in animal cell culture techniques including basic lab maintenance, primary and established cell line culture techniques, enumeration of cells, cell viability assays, toxicity testing, apoptosis/necrosis assays, determination of ROS, and molecular end points. Participants will be
