Scientific Officer – (Seed Production) for CIMMYT

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Scientific Officer for CIMMYT, India. This is a nationally recruited position.

About CIMMYT:

CIMMYT (www.cimmyt.org) is a not-for-profit scientific research and training organization with its global headquarters in El Batan, Mexico.  It is one of the 15 International Institutes under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The center works to sustainably increase the productivity of maize and wheat systems and thus ensure global food security and reduce poverty.

Responsibilities:

• Planning and implementing seed production research and production activities on promising hybrids developed by CIMMYT
• Managing production and distribution of hybrid and parental  seed to project partners
• Monitoring & evaluation of  CIMMYT facilitated  Yield trials  conducted by Partners  in R&D locations and farmers’ fields, as per the protocol requirements, along with other CIMMYT scientists and partners in the South Asia region
• Providing training assistance to strengthen the capacity of local partners in seed production research , parent & hybrid seed production  & quality control
• Willingness to travel to field locations in India & south Asia as per requirements of the job.

Competencies:

• Proficiency in English both written and spoken. Ability to communicate in Hindi/Telugu is desirable.
• Proficiency in Computer skills (Microsoft- Office, data analysis)
• Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team.

Requirements:

• M.Sc in Plant breeding or Seed technology.  At least 5 years of practical experience in seed production and working experience on maize is desirable.
• Keen analytical skills and ability to conduct, monitor and evaluate experimental trials

General:

The position is for three years, renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute's continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
