Seminar on Fundamentals of Mass Spectrometry for Biomedical Research
Date: March 9 to 10, 2014
Venue: Institute of Bioinformatics - Bangalore
Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB) is a premier centre for Proteomics and Computational Biology. IOB has established a state-of-the-art proteomics facility that is being utilized to explore and validate candidate biomarkers in a wide array of human diseases ranging from neurological disorders and infections to cancers. Scientists at IOB will share their expertise in using high-resolution mass spectrometry proteomic technologies with young researchers across India through a series of workshops. We have successfully conducted ten national workshops on high resolution mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Several faculties and students from reputed Research Institutes and Universities from India have participated in these workshops. In the year 2014 we have initiated a new series of seminars and workshops which will benefit a wider range of students and researcher in the field of biomedical research.
About the workshop:
This seminar will provide opportunity for each and every biomedical and clinical students to get an exposure to the field of OMICs research in general and proteomics in particular. You have the opportunity to hear one of the finest and internationally renowned team of researchers, who used proteomic, genomic and transcriptomic approaches to understand human proteome profiles in normal and disease conditions and to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Speakers will also share details about new area of science called proteogenomics in which proteome and transcriptome data has been used to refine gene annotations in human, several disease vectors and pathogens. Besides, you will also visualize how quantitative proteomic approaches can be used to study host-response and host-pathogen interactions in a global and unbiased way. A certificate of participation will be given to all participants.
Topics:
· Lecture series by eminent scientists
· Panel discussion of long duration, where participants can discuss even the experiment design for their own project
· Hands-on training for sample preparation and mass spectrometry data analysis
· Demonstration of Fractionation techniques
