Recruitment for Research Associate and Project Assistant positions

Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) is an autonomous academic institution established by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India with regional and global partnerships synergizing with the programmes of UNESCO as a Category II Centre. The primary focus of RCB is to provide world class education, training and conduct innovative research at the interface of multiple disciplines to create high quality human resource in disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas of biotechnology in a globally competitive research milieu. RCB provides a platform for interdisciplinary research & education at the biotech interface of engineering & medicine, chemistry & physics, agriculture & climate science to empower human resources to drive biotech science and provide a common platform for innovation,
enterprise, and industrial development to germinate. The Centre would be beneficial to India as well as other Member States of UNESCO in this region towards developing knowledge-rich, highly skilled human resource, harmonizing policies & procedures in biotechnology and indirectly promoting trade.

RCB is presently located in Udyog Vihar Phase I, Gurgaon (NCR) neighboring the South Delhi area, which has adequate housing, transportation and schooling facilities. The permanent campus of the Centre is nearly ready in a unique NCR Biotech Science Cluster (BSC) set-up by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT),
Government of India in the NCR at Faridabad (Haryana).

The Centre invites applications from suitably qualified, dynamic, result-oriented and dedicated candidates for the following positions for RCB on contractual basis initially for a period of one year with consolidated emoluments under “Inter-Institutional Program for Maternal, Neonatal and Infant Sciences: A translational approach to studying preterm birth”. Preterm birth is one of the major global public health problems and it is the single largest cause of neonatal deaths. India contributes the highest number of preterm birth and deaths worldwide (~25%). From a clinical perspective, it is of paramount importance to understand the molecular processes involved in preterm birth for early prediction, or prevention of preterm birth. RCB will lead the proteomics component preterm birth project.

1. Research Associate (02 Position)

Consolidated emoluments Rs.22000/- + 30% H.R.A. p.m.

Essential: Ph.D. in Natural Sciences, minimum 60% marks in all qualifying exams and below 35 years of age.

Desirable: Prior experience at the PhD level in Biochemistry, Bioinformatics and Proteomics with a strong motivation for a career in research is highly desirable.

Strong PhD level training with proteins chemistry, protein purification and statistical analysis of proteomics or genomics dataset will be preferred. Either/ both qualifications should be substantiated by published papers.

2. Project Assistant (02 Position)

Consolidated emoluments Rs. 12,000/- + 30% H.R.A p.m.

Essential: M.Tech or M.Sc. in Natural Science 60% marks in all qualifying exams and below 30 years of age.

Desirable: M.Tech/M.Sc level in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biotechnology with at least two years experience in protein and proteomics related work.

OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Appointment will be made on a contract initially for 1 year and may be extended based on annual evaluation until completion of the project. Subject to satisfactory performance, a 5% annual increase in the emoluments will also be considered.
2. All educational, professional and technical qualifications should be from a recognized Board / University.
3. Cut off dates for educational qualification, experience & age will be as on 01.03.2014.
4. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
5. Other facilities as per rules of the Centre

6. Positions will be initially based in the RCB’s interim office 180, Udyog Vihar, Phase-I, Gurgaon and will be shifted to its permanent campus in Faridabad when ready.
7. Mere fulfilment of the minimum prescribed qualification and experience will not vest any right on a candidate for being called for interview. Only the candidates short listed by a duly constituted Screening Committee will be called for interview. In case a large number of applications are received for each post, the Screening Committee may limit the number of candidates to those possessing higher qualification or alternatively may arrange written screening tests for short-listing the candidates. The decision of the Centre in this regard will be final. No interim inquiries in this regard will be entertained.
