ADMISSION UNDER Ph.D. PROGRAM IN BIOTECHNOLOGY

Applications are invited against 03 [Three] seats offered by the faculty members for direct enrollment/ registration under Ph.D. Program in Biotechnology from the candidates who fulfill the academic eligibility criteria as on December 31, 2013.

The candidate shall append a cover letter indicating their research expertise and field/ discipline of interest. The last date for receipt of duly filled application(s) along with requisite fee is May 25, 2014 [4:00 PM]. The cover letter along with the application form and other relevant documents shall be addressed to The Chairman, Department of Biotechnology, Himachal Pradesh University, Summer Hill, Shimla-171 005.

Eligibility conditions

The following amendments to the First Ordinances of the H.P. University, as  approved by the Executive Council in its meetings held on 29‐11‐2011, 29‐3‐2012,  20‐4‐2012, 2‐7‐2012 and 17‐9‐2012 under the power vested in it under Section  40(2) of the Himachal Pradesh University Act‐1970 read with Statutes 26(2) of the  First Statutes of the University and assented to by the Hon’ble Chancellor under  Section 40(3) of the Act ibid as conveyed by the Chancellor’s office vide letter  No. 4‐37/76‐GS‐V dated 24‐10‐2013 are hereunder:

Minimum qualification prescribed for admission to Ph.D. course in all Faculties shall be as follows [for details refer Ordinance 1.4];

(i) For applicants seeking enrollment in Ph.D. in Biotechnology, the qualification for enrolment/ registration/ admission shall be Master Degree in Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Food Technology/ Fermentation Technology/ Agricultural Biotechnology and any other field of Life-Sciences/ Physical Sciences/ Engineering & Technology/ Pharmacy/ Medical Sciences with at least 55% marks at the Master’s level (50% in case of SC/ST). For further details refer to the Ordinance 16.12 (related to admission procedure).

(ii) Applicants for Ph.D. Program in Biotechnology who have qualified NET-JRF/ Inspire/ Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship/ DBT/ ICMR/ DRDO Fellowship/ SLET and the candidates who were admitted to M.Phil. Program through Entrance Test and have undertaken course work during M.Phil. shall be admitted to the Ph.D. program directly.

The fee once deposited is not refundable.

All the UGC regulations published in the Gazette of India No. 28 dated July 11 – July 17, 2009: Part-III, Section-4, as amended from time to time shall be applicable for the award of Ph.D. degree after issuing necessary notification by the University in this regard.
