INVITATION FOR NOMINATIONS
RANBAXY RESEARCH AWARDS-2013
HELP US TO RECOGNISE YOUR OUTSTANDING RESEARCH SCIENTISTS
We invite Heads of Research Institutions, Universities, Medical and Pharmaceutical Colleges, to send in their nominations for the Ranbaxy Research Awards 2013. The Awards are for excellence in original research work in Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences by Indian scientists. Non-Resident Indian Scientists are also eligible for these Awards.
The 2013 Awards
There are four Awards. Each Award will carry a Trophy, Citation and a Cash Prize of Rupees Two Lakhs (Rs.200,000).
MEDICAL SCIENCES : Three Awards.
- One each for Basic Research, Medical Research and Clinical Research.
PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES : One Award.
The Procedure
You are requested to send the nominations of research scientists who have done original research work. This nomination should comprise 12 bound sets, each set consisting of the following information:
à Complete bio-data of the candidate à List of 10 best papers of the candidate highlighting the important contributions in them briefly à Awards already received à Signed details of the excellence in research work for which the nomination is being sent (approximately 10 pages) à Two specific publications/ research papers relevant to the research work à Statement that the research work under reference has not been given any award à Signed consent of the candidate à Signed Justification for sponsoring the nomination, and à Signed Citation on outstanding research work by the nominator.
All nominations should be forwarded to reach by July 15, 2014 at the address given below :

The Awards
MEDICAL SCIENCES
a. Basic Research
Basic Research would cover :
à Fundamental advances in any discipline of physical or bio-medical sciences that enhance the understanding and scope of Medical Sciences.
b. Medical Research
Medical Research would cover :
à Contributions for better understanding of the functioning of human body system or aetiopathogenesis, pathophysiology or molecular basis of disease processes, thereby enhancing the understanding of medical sciences and lead to improvement in health care.
à Epidemiological studies on (a) prevalence of diseases, (b) impact of interventions on disease patterns in the community.
à Application of advances in Laboratory Methodology to enhance patient care.
c. Clinical Research
Clinical Research in the field of Medical Sciences would cover :
à Advances in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
à Advances in knowledge by clinical evaluation of new and existing drugs, vaccines and diagnostic tests.
à Epidemiological studies on the secondary prevention of diseases by therapeutic interventions.
The number of awards in each category could vary.
PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES
Pharmaceutical Sciences would cover design, discovery and development of new drugs, novel drug delivery systems, study of mode of action of drugs, drug-receptor interaction and characterization of receptors and new targets, advances in molecular biology, biotechnology and fermentation.
They would also include Applied Research in Pharmaceutical Science covering innovations in the applied field with distinctive features in :
à Development of new process technology for commercial production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, intermediates or excipients.
à Development of Pharmaceutical dosage forms with improved stability and/or bioavailability.
à Development of standardized dosage forms through exploitation of rich natural resources including from herbal sources and traditional systems drugs.
à Applied Research in the area of biotechnology/fermentation technology.
Outstanding contributions in one or more areas of the above categories would be eligible for an award.
The Nomination Procedure
à Indian nationals and Non-Resident Indians working in India or abroad are eligible for these awards.
à Please forward your nominations in a sealed cover, by July 15, 2014.
à There is no special nomination form for the purpose. However, it may please be ensured that twelve sets, (The sets should be properly bounded and numbered) giving the following details, are forwarded.
a. Complete bio-data of the candidate with residential/official address, tel/ /fax numbers and e-mail address.
b. In order of importance, list of ten best papers of the candidate, highlighting the important discoveries/contributions described in them briefly.
c. Statement of research achievements, if any, on which any award has already been received by the candidate.
d. Details of the research work for which the Ranbaxy Research Award is claimed, including references and illustrations in not more than 10 pages. The candidate should duly sign the details and clearly indicate the category of the award for which the nomination is being sponsored viz. Medical Sciences-Basic Research/ Medical Research/Clinical Research/Pharmaceutical Sciences.
e. Copy of one or two specific publications/research papers of the candidate, relevant to the research work on which the award is claimed.
f. Signed statement from the candidate to the effect that the research work under reference has not been given any award in the past. The candidate should also indicate the extent of the contribution of others associated with the research and he/she should clearly identify his/her achievements.
g. Signed consent of the candidate for sponsoring his/her nomination.
h. Justification for sponsoring the nomination in not more than 200 words, signed by the nominator and
i. Citation (summary) on the outstanding research work on which award is claimed in about 100 words signed by the nominator.
à Please ensure that the nomination papers include only specific information and are not made bulky unnecessarily.
The nomination papers should be sponsored by the HEAD OF THE INSTITUTE and or a person who is competent to review the research work of the nominee.
à In regard to joint sponsorship for the award, the nominator is requested to check that the research work done by all the scientists is in the same scientific field and the contribution made by each of the scientists is clearly mentioned.
à Incomplete nomination papers are liable to be rejected and as such the candidate should be asked to send complete papers and the requisite number of sets.
à Ranbaxy Research Awards are not for a specific research topic of a scientist, but for the overall scientific contribution in his/her specialty, and therefore, the award will be considered as one time award for a scientists achievements. A scientist should not be considered for this award for second time.
à The nominations will be reviewed by a Panel of Judges, consisting of eminent scientists in the fields of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
à The Award Presenting Ceremony for the 2013 Awards is expected to be held during the month of November - December 2014 in New Delhi. The Awardees will be paid to and fro traveling expenses (economy class) to New Delhi, in addition to other expenses connected with their stay in New Delhi for a day or two.
à Awardees may be expected to deliver an oration on their award-winning research work as well as to submit the manuscript for publication.
