About the course:
M.Sc. Bioinformatics is offered by Department of Bioinformatics, Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore. It was introduced to our college from the academic year 2012-2013 onwards and is sponsored by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, under Innovative Programme Scheme.
Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field, which includes Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Information Technology. Bioinformatics includes but is not limited to Genomics, Computational Biology, Proteomics, Systems Biology, Drug Design, Pharmacogenomics, Structural and Functional Genomics. The Department of Bioinformatics at our college strives to develop Bioinformatics skills among the students, to equip them to compete in the global Bioinformatics market. The curriculum is designed to encompass latest advancements and updates in the field. We help our students to cultivate research skills along with the academics by encouraging them to undertake small projects in our college and also to undergo summer training/ research trainings for a period of 6-8 weeks at reputed institutes during the vacation after first year. We have well qualified teaching staffs who have been appointed as per UGC norms, extensively follows both e-learning and traditional Teaching methods. Our curriculum and the teaching methods will enable students to appear for NET/ SLET confidently.
AIM:
· To bring out value based Bioinformatics fraternity.
OBJECTIVES:
· To train the students in Bioinformatics skills
· To update the students with the latest innovations in the field.
· To provide placement for the students in their areas of choice.
· To secure 100% result by providing extra coaching to slow learners.

· Well equipped Genomics, Proteomics and Microbiology laboratories with all high end, sophisticated instruments like PCR, Real Time PCR, HPLC, Gene Sequencing Unit, lyophilizer, microplate reader, Incubators, centrifuges, Gel Documentation system, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Lamiar Air Flow cabinet, microscopes, etc.
· Frequent Industrial visits and individual real time projects at reputed research institutes
· Secured hostel accommodation for girls (Limited seats – Based on first come first serve basis)
· Students can avail government scholarships for PG courses.
Eligibility:
Any female candidate with B.Sc., in any branch of life science (Botany /Zoology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology /Bioinformatics) or BSc., in Chemistry/ Physics/ Information Technology/ Computer Science or BCA with Biology at +2 level.
