Nanotechnology applications are currently being researched, tested and in some cases already applied across the entire spectrum of agriculture. This technology can revolutionize the agricultural field with the help of new tools for improving the ability of plants to absorb nutrients, rapid disease detection, molecular treatment of diseases, etc. The application of nanomaterials in agriculture aims in particular to reduce applications of plant protection products, minimize nutrient losses in fertilization, and increase yields through optimized nutrient management. In addition, smart delivery systems and smart sensors of nanotechnology will be helpful for the agriculturists in combating crop pathogens and other viruses. Therefore, nanotechnology has remarkable applications in a variety of spheres, including agriculture, animal husbandry and natural resources management. But investment in research and development in this fantastic science needs to be raised to reap its benefits.

There is a need to put in place a carefully conceived regulatory mechanism for nanotechnology. Creating public awareness of any possible merits and demerits of nano-products is imperative to stave off resistance from environment activists of the kind some biotechnology products have come across. This should be part of our overall strategy to promote nanotechnology to catch up with advanced countries.

Main Themes of the Seminar

1.       Synthesis and characterization of Nanoscale materials

2.       Nanotechnology in Agricultural Sciences

3.       Nanotechnology in Veterinary Sciences

4.       Nanotechnology in Food Sciences and Textiles

5.       Nanoscale materials for environment remediation
