National Workshop on Immunophysiology: Role of Immune Cells and Cytokines in Immunity
23-24 March, 2015
Organized by

About the Workshop
Immunophysiology, the physiology of immunological processes is a interdisciplinary area which deals with understanding how various stimuli impinge upon the immune system to affect disease resistance and how cells of the immune system, and their secreted cytokine gene products, interact with disparate physiologic systems to affect growth and development, nutrition and metabolism, neural pathways that regulate behavior, and health and well-being. The present workshop on Immunophysiology to be held under the banner of Federation of Indian Physiological Societies (FIPS) will be dedicated to the fields of cellular and molecular biology of innate immune responses, adaptive immunity, diseases of the immune system and immune interventions. This workshop will highlight major recent developments in the key features of the life of various immune cells, how cells normally regulate immunological and inflammatory reactions, and how the immune system is intimately related to other physiological functions. To accomplish this goal, the Organizers will bring together a distinguished group of speakers, in their respective fields, to present and discuss their recent research findings. The main topics of the workshop will include immune cell functions, their receptors, signaling and soluble mediators; cell-cell interactions, cross talk between various physiological systems, host-defense processes, healthy partnership between phagocytes (neutrophils, macrophages) and lymphocytes and nano-particle targeting of these cells. Apart from this, practical training will be provided on:
Simple procedures for recovery of viable neutrophils, lymphocytes and monocyte/ macrophages from blood and milk
Estimation of chemotactic, phagocytic activity, lymphocyte proiliferation assay and localization of leucocyte receptors
Developing an ELISAfor blood leucocytes
Protein expression analysis
