Post title: BIRAC Innovation Fellowship
Advertisement for one position of BIRAC Innovation fellow (purely temporary basis)
under Cluster Innovation Centre in Biotechnology (CIC-B) at Panjab University,
Chandigarh. The CIC-B is sponsored by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance
Council (BIRAC), Govt. of India.
Who can apply?
Applicants who have completed their Masters in any of the below given focus areas
(I or II); (Free cut- off year for selection)
OR
Applicants who have completed their 4 years of education after 10+2 (B.Tech., B.E., B.Pharm,
B.Sc. +1year of education as post graduate (Pre-M.Sc.) student with upcoming research
projects/s in at least one semester of 2nd year as a part of curriculum with credits in fields of Life
Sciences like Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbial Biotechnology etc. are
eligible. In this case, the project can be submitted as M.Sc thesis, basic criterion sticking to
innovation and plagiarism-free concepts. The candidate will have to pursue the project even
after completion of the Master's degree and take the project to completion. These candidates
can also register for Ph.D. as per the norms of the (University).
OR
A registered PhD Candidate who has completed (or about to complete) his/ her one
year of course work. BIRAC "Entrepreneurship Research fellow (ship)," Fellowship will
start when the course work is completed and candidate is ready to work towards the
Research project. The same project may be taken for as PhD dissertation. In such case
BIRAC fellowship will be for two year extendable to another year, subject to review of
the project. All the milestones of the project have to be achieved within this duration.
BIRAC Innovation fellowship will start for the main Ph.D. work and will be for two years and
extendable for one more year based on the project progress, potential and BIRAC
discretion. The project approved by the selection committee will be taken forward under the
BIRAC fellowship and will also serve the Ph.D. thesis.
BIRAC Innovation Fellowship will not
be continued for the complete duration of the Ph.D. and candidate should plan his alternate
source of funds. BIRAC Innovation Fellowship for Post Masters: is Rs. 30.00 thousand per
month along with BIRAC Innovation Grant of Rs.2.00 Lakhs per year.
Focus Area I: Healthcare Diagnostics
Eligibility: Areas of Biotechnology /Microbiology /
Microbial Biotechnology/ Biomedical Engineering / Life Sciences/ Bio chemistry / Bio Physics
Focus Area II: Bioprocess Technology
Eligibility: Areas of Biotechnology / Microbiology /
Microbial Biotechnology/ Life Sciences/ Pharmaceutical Sciences & allied disciplines
BIRAC Innovation Fellowship: Rupees 30,000/- per month and BIRAC Innovation
Grant of Rupees 2, 00, 000/- per year.
Period of Fellowship: Grant period is 2 years; extendable by one more year depending
upon the progress in achieving commercialization
In all cases, to hold the fellowship the candidate is required to work at the CIC-B, PU premises.
