Announcement of
Ph.D. program at IAR, Gandhinagar
(1st Phase, January 2018 intake)
IAR, Gandhinagar is associated with three renowned visionaries: Prof. Nathu Ram Puri, a successful
entrepreneur and philanthropist, who help set up the Indian Institute of Advanced Research through the
Puri Foundation; Shri Narendra Modi, then Chief Minister of Gujarat and the current Prime Minister of
India, who laid the foundation stone for the Institute; and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, then President of
India, who formally inaugurated the Institute in April 2006. The Government of Gujarat recognized this
Institute as a University in 2011. The University hosts three Schools/Centers, namely School of
Biological Sciences and Biotechnology; The Centre for Engineering and Enterprises; and The
Leadership and Business School.
IAR offers Ph.D. program in the following:
• Biotechnology ( Cell Biology; Genetics & Developmental Biology; & Immunology)
• Chemistry (Nano Chemistry; Medicinal Chemistry; & Materials Chemistry)
• Physics (Gravitational Wave Astrophysics/ Plasma Physics)
• Commerce/Management
Eligibility
M.Sc. (Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Genetics,
Nanotechnology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science; Chemistry and Physics). M.A. in
Economics/Management with at least 55% marks.
Mode of Selection Selection will be made on the basis of PhD Entrance Test (PET) followed by interview.
• Interested candidates may visit our University website for more information; apply by
filling the application form available at the University web page (www.iar.ac.in). All
applications have to pay a processing fee of Rs 500, as bank draft in favour of
REGISTRAR, IAR, Gandhinagar. However, the candidates belonging to SC/ST category
are not required to pay processing fee.
• Reservation for SC/ST/OBC and physically disabled candidates will follow UGC norms
• Please Note: The students who have cleared National Eligibility Tests like CSIR/UGC are
exempt from taking written tests and they will be called for direct interviews, but such applicants
need to submit application along with processing fee before the deadline.

Last date of submission of duly filled & completed Application: 26th February 2018
Date of PET test & Announcement of Results: 5
th March. 2018
Date of Interviews will be announced concurrent with announcement of results.
