Dimples are due to a GENETIC trait following an Autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance. Transfer of dimples from parents to children occurs due to just one gene. Dimples are highly inheritable.
The truth is that dimples are actually genetic defects that are revealed by shortened facial muscles. Dimpleas are caused by a fault in the subcutaneous connective tissue that develops in the course of the embryonic development.
