Project Description Among all cardiovascular-related diseases, coronary artery disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide. Current therapies used to treat acute myocardial infarction are insufficient and contribute to heart damage by promoting reperfusion injury (I/R), which exacerbates cardiomyocyte death following ischemia. We have recently published that Fisetin, belongs to the flavonoid group of polyphenols are effective in attenuating myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury. However, its mode of action and the possibility to develop into a preventive nutraceutical are barely understood. The study make use of cell lines, Langendroff perfusion apparatus and LCA ligation techniques to study the role of fisetin in the management of I/R injury.
