Role Description

Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship in Immunology funded by the Hull York Medical School. This Fellowship is intended to provide a stepping stone for a highly motivated and able early career immunologist to move towards a fully-established, independent and externally-funded research career. The scheme is open to individuals with an excellent track record in research, based on in vitro or animal models or studies in humans, and is part of an exciting package of appointments in immunology that will be made over the next few years.
Researchers in the Immunology, Haematology and Infection theme within the newly created York Biomedical Research Institute have an outstanding reputation for research in immunology and infection, spanning research on the fundamental molecular biology and immunology of infectious disease,  haematological diseases, autoimmunity and clinical trials of novel therapeutics.  Our science is underpinned by the state-of-the-art facilities provided by the Department of Biology’s Biosciences Technology Facility.
Successful candidates will be expected to pursue an independent programme of innovative research, contribute to and lead on the production of high quality research outputs including high quality publications, present their work to scientific audiences and have a role in the supervision of postgraduate research students.  Within the time-frame of the Fellowship, you will apply for a prestigious externally-funded intermediate fellowship to continue your research career at HYMS.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in immunology or related discipline, at least two years of postdoctoral experience, and meet eligibility criteria for fellowships supported by UK funding agencies. S/he will have an excellent publication record, evidence of independent research and bring expertise in a new area of immunology that complements research interests in the Immunology, Haematology and Infection theme.
The scheme offers a salary starting at £39,609 a year plus a generous support allowance for equipment, consumables, travel and conference attendance. The post is available for a fixed term period of up to two years. Exceptionally it may be possible to extend the contract for a third year.
If you are interested in applying, you are encouraged to make informal enquiries to Professor Paul Kaye (paul.kaye@york.ac.uk; + 44 (0)1904 328840).
