K. VijayRaghavan, the principal scientific adviser to the Government of India, announced (On February 12) that India would join a global consortium of countries (Plan S Coalition) attempting to standardise the way their scientists publish their papers and their availabity to the public freely.
Plan S Coalition was originally mooted by Science Europe. According Plan S, after 1 January 2020, scientific publications on the results from research funded by public grants provided by national and European research councils and funding bodies must be published in compliant Open Access journals.
