Applications / Nominations invited for the post of Scientist-H at NIAB, Hyderabad
1 About the Institute: National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) is an autonomous
institute under Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, and Government
of India. NIAB is aimed to harness novel and emerging biotechnologies and create knowledge in
the cutting edge areas for improving animal health and productivity. The Institute’s research focus
is on animal genetics and genomics, transgenic technology, reproductive technology, diseases,
nutritional enrichment, and bioinformatics. The Institute aims at translational research leading to
genetic enhancement of Indian Livestock species and basic research towards development of
novel vaccines, diagnostics and improved therapeutic molecules for farm animals. The details

2 Vacant post : To fill one post of Scientist-H, NIAB is looking for Scientist and visionary
academic leader with outstanding record of research accomplishments to establish strong centre
of research to address the problems existing in livestock health and productivity. Person having
established interpersonal and leadership skills with commitment to work effectively with
colleagues as part of inter-disciplinary team is required. NIAB is looking for dedicated and
committed person who believes in institution building and has a passion for academic excellence
and quality research.
3 Eligibility Criteria
(i) For Direct Recruitment :
(a) Ph.D in Veterinary Sciences/Animal Sciences/Modern Biology/Life Sciences or
equivalent from a recognized university with a strong track record of research,
academic accomplishment in terms of publications and patents and attracting
generous research funding.
(b) Evidence of leadership with 15 years of R&D experience in any one of the NIAB
thrust areas and experience of guiding Ph.D. students.
(ii) For Deputation :
Officials of Central Governments/State Governments/Universities/Public Sector
Undertaking/Govt. Funded Research Organization/ Institutes/ autonomous bodies
possessing the qualification and experience prescribed for direct recruitment, as
above, are eligible to apply. The terms and conditions of deputation shall be
governed by DoPT OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt. (Pay II) dated 17th June 2010 as
amended / revised from time to time.
(iii) The requirement of experience specified above shall be the experience acquired
after obtaining the minimum educational qualifications specified for the post.
4. Age Limit,
(i) Age limit for direct recruitment: 50 years as on the last date for receipt of application.
(ii) Age limit for deputation: 58 years as on the last date for receipt of application.
(iii) Age relaxation may be considered as per Govt of India rules
5. Method of appointment and Probation :
(i) Method of appointment: Direct recruitment / Deputation (ISTC) / Absorption
(ii) Probation : There will be an initial probation period of two years which may be
extended at the discretion of the Competent Authority.
6. Pay Level :
(i) The incumbent will be placed in Level-15 of the pay matrix with annual increment
as per CCS (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016. At the present rate, a Scientist-H shall be
entitled for a gross pay of about Rs 2,65,000 as per the CCS (RP) Rules, 2016
(ii) The positions carry usual allowances as admissible to Central Government
Employees of the same pay and status posted at Hyderabad.
7. Responsibilities: The selected candidate is expected to establish a strong research
programme to address the problems of livestock. Lead a group of scientists in the
identified areas, establish Centre of Excellence, help the Director in the academic and
administrative matters of the Institute and develop an ecosystem for communication,
creative thinking and innovation.

NIAB.
(g) Candidates working in Govt./PSUs/autonomous bodies are required to have
their applications forwarded through proper channels.
(ii) Nominations by distinguished experts may be considered, depending upon merit
and the area of expertise. Nominations should also enclose the documents
mentioned at 8 (i) above.
9. The decision with regard to shortlisting of the candidates based on the conditions specified
above and to provide relaxation, if any, shall be taken by the Search-cum-selection committee
constituted by DoPT.
