Applications are invited for the temporary position of Project Assistant sanctioned in the DST/DBT/ SERB
/ICMR/CSIR/ sponsored project titled “Behaviour and reproductive success of male Asian
elephants in the Kabini elephant population, southern India” under the Principal Investigator
Prof. T.N.C. Vidya, EIBU (formerly Evolutionary and Organismal Biology Unit), JNCASR,
Jakkur, Bengaluru, 560 064. The selected candidate will be based primarily in the field, and
collect data on individual identification of elephants, behaviour, resource availability, etc.
Essential Qualifications: Post Graduate Degree in Basic Sciences/Agricultural/Veterinary Sciences
OR Graduate/Post Graduate Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognised
university.
Prior field experience and excellent observational skills are required, as is physical fitness, as the job
demands long hours in the forest. The selected person should be willing to live at the field site, where
only basic facilities are available.
Desirable Qualifications:
It is desirable that the applicant be able to drive a four-wheeler (jeep) in field conditions and know (or
quickly learn to converse in) Kannada.
The ideal applicant will also be familiar with basic statistics
and possess good analytical and writing skills.
Remuneration: as per DST norms.
