Contractual Engagement of 74 Project Personnel at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun The Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research in the area of wildlife conservation and Protected Area management.The Institute wishes to advertise for contractual engagement of manpower for various positions for the following three projects and Tiger Cell:

1 Senior Biologist 5 No. 

M.Sc. in Wildlife Sciences/Zoology/Botany/Life Sciences/Forestry/Forest Management/Environmental Science/Environmental Management/Conservation Biology/Veterinary Sciences/Agricultural Sciences/Statistics Genetics/ Biotechnology/Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/Microbiology/Biosciences/ with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in M.Sc. from a recognized University with at least 2 years of research experience in wildlife science or conservation. 

Candidates with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation, knowledge of software like MARK, DISTANCE, R, SECR and MAXENT, able to do field work in harsh condition will be given preference. 

Proficiency in using computers and good writing skill in English language. 

40 yrs 

Rs. 35,000/- 

Analysis of large scale data on animal abundance and indices, field supervision and training, report writing. Work will be both at HQ in Dehradun with several field visits. The job requires extensive traveling to forest interiors, wildlife areas and arduous terrains across India for longer durations. 

2 Research Biologist (field component) 48 No. 

B.E./B. Tech./B.Sc. or M.Sc. in WildlifeScience/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Forest Management/ Life Sciences/Environmental Sciences /Environmental Management/ Agricultural Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/Biotechnology/Genetics/Conservation Biology/Statistics/ with aminimum of 50% aggregate marksfrom a recognized University. 

Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation will be preferred. Able to do field work in harsh condition.

Populationestimation using camera traps, markrecapture, distancesampling and occupancy analysis. Habitatevaluation andhumandisturbance assessment.The research work will becarried out in differentparts of India. Work will be primarily at fieldsiteswithoccasional visits to the HQ at Dehradun. 

3 Research Biologist (Genetics component) 5 No. 

M.Sc. in Genetics/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/ Microbiology/Biosciences/ Botany/Zoolog y/Life Sciences/Forestry/Wildlife Science with a minimum of 55% aggregate marksfrom a recognized University. 

Candidate(s) with priorexperience in DNAextraction, PCR analysis, analysis of genetic dataespeciallyseque nce andmicrosatellite will begiven preference.

Developing a geneticdatabase of largecarnivores to understandpopulation structure andgene flow. Work will beprimarily atDehradun labbased with some fieldvisits for samplecollections.Active participation and assistance in routine molecular biology laboratory work. 

4 Research Biologist (GIS component) 3 No. 

M.Sc. in Wildlife Science/ Life Sciences/Forestry/ Environmental Science/ Environmental Management/Applied Science/Remote Sensing and GIS/Geo-informatics/Biological Sciences with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized university. OR 

Post Graduate/Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized university. Experience in Remote Sensing and GIS, competency in Arc GIS, ERDAS IMAGINE and other Open Source Software (Q GIS etc.) shall be given preference.

The job primarily involves handling, processing and analyses of large scale spatial data with data processing, digitization, feature extraction, and analysis within GIS platform.Maintenance of spatial data, end user support. Generation of maps and providing other GIS reports and information.Work will be primarily at WII with some fieldvisits for ground validations (if required). 

6 Project Fellow 8 No. 

M.Sc. in WildlifeScience/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Forest Management/ Life Sciences/Environmental Sciences /Environmental Management/ Agricultural Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/Biotechnology/Genetics/Conservation Biology/Statistics/ with aminimum of 50% aggregate marksfrom a recognized University. 

Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design and animal abundance estimation will be preferred. Able to do field work in harsh condition.

Train and handhold forest staff for using and implementing MSTrIPES, testing apps and desktop versions and providing online services. Candidate will be involved periodically in populationestimation using camera traps, markrecapture, distancesampling and occupancy analysis. Habitatevaluation andhumandisturbance assessment.The research work will becarried out in differentparts of India. Work will be primarily at fieldsiteswithoccasional visits to the HQ at Dehradun. Project :Identification of tiger corridor in and around Palamau tiger reserve

7 Project Fellow 2 No. 

M.Sc. in WildlifeScience/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Forest Management/ Life Sciences/Environmental Sciences /Environmental Management/ Agricultural Sciences/ Conservation Biology with aminimum of 50% aggregate marksfrom a recognized University. 

Candidate(s) with prior experience in wildlife sampling design in humandominated landscape, and animal abundance estimation will be preferred. Basic knowledge of remote sensing and GIS. Able to do field work in harsh condition.

Train and handhold forest department staff for camera trapping, and animal surveys (using M-STrIPES). Candidate will be involved in populationestimation of wild animals using markrecapture, distancesampling and occupancy analysis, and habitatevaluation andhumandisturbance assessment.

The research work will becarried out in and around Palamau TR. Work will be primarily at fieldsitewithoccasional visits to the HQ at Dehradun. Project : Tiger Cell SL. 

8 Database manager 1 No. 

Master’s or Ph.D.Degree in Wildlife Science/ Forestry/Environmental Science/Bio Sciences/Life Sciences/Zoology/Veterinary Scienceswith a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in M.Sc. 

Experience: Candidates with Master’s Degree should have aminimum of 02(two) years research experience after Master’s degree and candidates having Ph.D.degree should haveexperience of at least one year in thefield of conservation or wildliferesearch after award of Ph.D. Candidate should have a minimum of 03 (three) years of experience in working with animal image recognition softwares/programs and animal individual identification software/program. They should have experience in maintaining large and multiple year dataset.

Experienced candidates in the field of carnivore ecology and management will be given preference and competency in ecological software are desirable.

Maintaining tiger and leopard photo-database. Processing Phase IV data of Tiger Reserves. Supervising tiger and leopard identification during the All India Tiger Estimation exercise. Work will be both at HQ in Dehradunand HQ in New Delhi. with severalfield visits.
