Applications are invited for a post of Research Assistant  in an ICMR-funded Project entitled: "Analysis of protein aggregation in sialic acid deficient cells” (Reference Number:20-3314/CMB/Adhoc-BMS)'' at School of Biotechnology, JNU. The selected candidate will be appointed purely on temporary basis, initially for one year that may be extended based on the performance on yearly basis till the completion of project.

Position: Research Assistant (1)

Essential Qualifications & Experience: Candidate must have a Master’s degree (with minimum 55% marks) in Biotechnology/Biochemistry/ Microbiology /Life Sciences/ Biosciences or any other related field with relevant experience

Desirable: Basic knowledge of working in the molecular biology laboratory with mammalian cells alongwith basic computational skills would be a plus. Also NET qualified candidates may get preference.

Salary: Rs. 9300-34800 GP 4200 p.m.

Appointment will be purely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. The eligible candidates may further be shortlisted based on qualifications/experience depending on the number of applications received.

Desirable: Two years experience in large-scale biological data analysis/ developing Bioinformatics or related software tools/ databases with a proven record of publications and/or software products in public domain.

3. Scientific Administrative Assistant/ Attendant:  Graduate degree in any discipline.

Desirable: Proficiency in basic computer operations and two years experience in maintaining research projects in an academic institution.

Job Roles:
All these positions are primarily meant for managing and contributing to the Bioinformatics computing infrastructure facility and at SCIS, JNU.  

Administrative Assistant/ attendant will maintain the budgeting and progress reports and any activities related to BIF in particular. He/she will help the SCIS faculty in managing their research projects, including those funded by BIF. In addition, they may be assigned any suitable task by the PI of the project.

Project Associate will primarily be responsible for maintaining high performance clustering systems of SCIS and its faculty members, help the SCIS researchers in the development of tools and database, web servers under the guidance of the PI.

Project Scientist will be responsible for carrying out research activities in the field of Bioinformatics and emerging computational technologies, needed for creating web and standalone tools in this area. He/ She will also work with the PI on setting up and planning to develop a data and service center and computational tools based on the research conducted by the SCIS faculty. He/she may be engaged in teaching/ training on the topics of Bioinformatics/ Computational biology, helping SCIS faculty in preparing manuscripts and research grant applications/ reports from time to time as per the time scheduling advised by the PI.

The selected candidates will be appointed on purely temporary basis initially for a period of one year or till his/her services are required by the Project Investigators. The project lasts for more than 4 years and annual extensions/ re-selections will be based on the performance evaluation, subject to the availability/ release of funds by the sponsoring body (DBT).

(A) Project Scientist (01)

Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in Life Sciences or allied subjects with at least 3 years research experience in the relevant area.

Desirable: Experiences related to proteomics, transcriptomics, metagenomic (microbiome) and handling of research projects with quality publications are desired. Experience in techniques related to RNA Biology, protein-protein interactions, Proteomics, mammalian gene expression and cloning are required.

Nature of work: The Project Scientist will be responsible for management and execution of all the experiments in time-bound manner. The person will be responsible for managing the sample transport, cataloging and storage. The sampling, data management and coordination among the investigators and institutions will be looked after by the project scientist. Integration of results, making detailed project report and all the submission to the funding agencies in time bound manner will be part of duties assigned to the project scientist.

Salary: Rs. 69,400/- p.m. (Fixed)

(B) Senior Research Fellow (4)

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. Life Sciences or allied subjects from UGC recognized university with 2 years research experience as JRF/equivalent in the relevant areas/ experience in related industry (for SRF 4 only). Candidates with PhD and/or Prior experience in bioinformatics may be preferred.

Nature of work:

SRF – 1: Will be responsible for - transcriptomics and its validation through long noncoding RNA (lnRNA) sequencing from the samples; Literature survey for updated transcriptomics methods and optimization of protocol for the proposed study; Management of study subject’s demographic, clinical and translational information; Isolation and preparation of sample(s) from serum/plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells from human subject; and Data analysis, interpretation and preparation of technical report.

SRF – 2: Will be responsible for - Microbiome/Metagenomics data production from the fecal samples. Optimization of protocol for the proposed study; Management of study subject’s demographic, clinical and translational information; Isolation and preparation of sample(s) from human subject; and Data analysis, interpretation and preparation of technical report.

SRF – 3:  Will be responsible for -  performing proteomic and relevant studies; Literature survey for updated proteomics methods and optimization of protocol for the proposed proteomics study; Management of study subject’s demographic, clinical and translational information; Isolation and preparation of sample(s) for proteomic studies from serum and peripheral blood mononuclear cells from human subject; Data analysis, interpretation and preparation of technical report of proteomics and relevant studies; and proteome data production from the samples.

SRF – 4: Will be responsible for - creating integrating pipelines for integration of data from transcriptomics, metagenomics, proteomics and analyses using computational approach; and interpretation and preparation of technical report of the study. Prior experience in bioinformatics is desired.

Salary: Rs. 43,400/- p.m. (Fixed)

Project Assistant (01)

Essential Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences or allied subjects from UGC recognized university.

Desirable Qualification: Master’s Degree in Life Sciences or allied subjects with good academic record. Candidate with work experience in biological laboratory, preparation of various reagents and maintenance of project records will be preferred.

Nature of work: The Project Assistant will be involved in work related to proteomics, transcriptomics, metagenomic (microbiome) and project management. The person will also be responsible for sample transport, cataloging and storage.

Salary: Rs. 23,792/- per month (Fixed)

Duration of the project: The selected candidate will be appointed on purely temporary basis, initially for one year and which is renewable for another year subject to satisfactory performance, for a maximum of two years.
