Postdoctoral Scientist Position at the Mitra Lab, Ashoka University 

Position: A postdoctoral research position funded by India Alliance-DBT/ Wellcome Trust is available in the research group of Dr. Kasturi Mitra, Associate Professor, Indian Alliance Senior Fellow, Department of Biology at Ashoka University. Biology department at Ashoka university provides a vibrant learning and research environment, allowing seamless crosstalk of Biology with various other fields including computational biology, biophysics, chemistry, psychology and others (https://ashoka.edu.in/biology). The Mitra lab studies the role of mitochondria in normal and neoplastic cell proliferation in Drosophila and mammalian cell line models (https://walk-talk-dream-mito.weebly.com). The postdoctoral researcher hired for this position will primarily use high resolution fluorescence microscopy, biochemical and genetic tools to study mitochondria driven priming of stem cell self-renewal and proliferation identified and described by the Mitra lab. The postdoc will have the opportunity to work with Airyscan2 super-resolution technology and collaborate with quantitative biologists towards understanding the mechanism of mitochondria driven stem cell priming. Also, the postdoc will be responsible for training and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, alongside Kasturi. 

Requirements: 

• PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cancer Biology, or a related field. 
• Strong interest in mitochondria and/or stem cell biology with a quantitative bent of mind. 
• Thorough expertise in either Drosophila or cell line models, basic molecular biology and confocal microscopy, 
• Able to work as an independent researcher, as well as in team. 
• Able to efficiently communicate orally and in writing. 

Duration: The position is available for up to 3 years, subject to annual review of performance. Salary and benefits are commensurable to prior experience and in accordance with Department of Biotechnology, Government of India guidelines. 

Selection: Selection will be conducted in two stages where applications will first go through an initial screening, followed by an online interview by a panel of scientists at Ashoka University. The decision of the interview panel regarding the suitability of the candidate will be final. We will not encourage any further correspondence in this regard. The selection process shall continue until the position is filled. 

Appointment Start-date: The postdoc should be able to start in January 2022. However, closer joining dates can be negotiated.
