Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, an Autonomous Institute under Department

positions at the level of Associate Professor in the Life Sciences Division of the Institute

Essential qualification:
Master’s degree in Zoology/Life Science/ Entomology/Biotechnology
with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades or marks) at the
preceding degree and excellent academic record throughout as evidenced
by patents and/or publications in peer reviewed journals. The candidate
should have done a Ph.D. in Sericulture.
Experience:
A minimum of 10 years post-PhD teaching/research/professional
experience in any Indian/Foreign Institutions/Universities of comparable
standard.
Evidence of leadership and proven record of having sponsored
research projects, guiding Ph.D. students, teamwork, and participation in
professional societies activities.
Desirable:
Hands-on-experience on cultivation, rearing of Muga silkworm, and
quality assessment of Muga silk, etc.

Master’s degree in any branch of Life Science with first class or
equivalent (in terms of grades or marks) at the preceding degree and
excellent academic record throughout as evidenced by patents
and/or publications in peer reviewed journals. Candidates should
have done a Ph.D. in Applied Microbiology or Industrial
Microbiology.
Experience:
A minimum of 10 years post-PhD teaching/research/professional
experience in any Indian/Foreign Institutions/Universities of
comparable standard. Evidence of leadership and proven record of
having sponsored research projects, guiding PhD students,
teamwork and participation in professional societies activities.
Desirable:
Research experience in the field of microbial bioremediation or
industrially important microbial products.
General Information:
1. Last date of online application is 30days from date of publication of the advertisement.
2. Age as prescribed shall be as on the ‘closing date for receiving application’. Age relaxation
for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/other categories as per Government of India
rules/orders on the subject.
3. Letters of Recommendations: Applications for all the above posts must be supported by
three letters of recommendation, one preferably from the Ph.D. supervisor, to be submitted
confidentially to the Director of the Institute (dir.iasst@nic.in).
4. A summary note (maximum 1000 words) on the research work published by the candidate
in the relevant fields after completion of the Ph.D. The candidate should highlight the
significant works done, output, and achievements from these works for the said period in
terms of completed projects, papers published, IPR/Patents obtained, technology
generated/commercialized, the contribution made towards infrastructure development,
programme/project framing, and fund mobilization, participation in research and teaching
activities and linkages, etc.
5. A research programme and work plan on the area (maximum 2000 words) the candidate
will like to pursue being in the position. The information may include new, innovative and
original research project/ideas/thrust areas of work he/she proposes to introduce/conduct,
and facilities proposed to be developed, linkages and collaboration proposed with other
research units and departments of IASST as well as the expected outcome from these
approaches. While formulating the plan, the Institute's past and present achievements,
development, and outcome may be reviewed and critical gaps identified. The Institute’s
website (www.iasst.gov.in), annual reports, etc. may be consulted for developing the plan.
6. A non-refundable application fee of Rs 1000/- for unreserved candidate; however, no fee
will be required for reserved candidates. Mode of payment is only online transfer to the

7. Candidates are urged to provide details of their academic accomplishments (certificates,
testimonials, awards/honors/research achievements, citation index of publications).
Candidates are advised not to enclose copies of papers that have been submitted but have
not been accepted or published.
8. Caste certificate is to provide by the competent authority only.
9. Foreign Nationals who are “Persons of Indian Origin” (PIO) or Overseas Citizens of India
(OCI), in whose case, if selected, permission will be sought from Govt. of India before
he/she can join the Institute.
10. The Institute encourages interaction of the faculty with industry, other research, and
professional institutions. Consultancy is encouraged at IASST, and liberal consultancy
policies are in practice.
11. Facilities for research and development activities exist in all the Departments. These are
being continuously modernized with modern equipment and services. Good facilities also
exist for computing. The Institute has a well-stocked library.
12. A technology business incubator hosted by the Institute, called the ISVEC, promotes
technology-based entrepreneurship by faculty.
13. Persons employed in Government/Semi-Government organizations or Educational
Institutions must apply through proper channels and provide a No Objection Certificate
while applying, without which application will not be considered.
14. The Institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill any or all the posts advertised. The
prescribed essential qualifications are the minimum, and mere possession of the same does
not entitle candidates to be called for an interview. Where the number of applications
received in response to the advertisement is large, the Institute, at its discretion, may restrict
the number of candidates to a reasonable limit based on qualifications/experience higher
than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement after a screening process through a duly
constituted committee.
15. A list of candidates short-listed and not short-listed for personal interviews shall be notified
on the Institute website. No correspondence will be entertained from candidates regarding
conduct and result of interview and reasons for not being called for interview.
16. No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the interview.
17. Shortlisted candidates may also have to give a presentation of their work, if required.
18. Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidates.
19. The Institute reserves the right to alter/insert any corrections/additions in the
advertisement/website in the event of any typological error before the last date prescribed
for online application. The Institute reserves the right to fill up or not to fill up any of the
