Nature Conservation Foundation Filed Manager Job Opening

We are looking for a field manager who will be involved in setting up an ecological restoration project in southern Maharashtra. The work will involve field data collection, talking to different local stakeholders, setting up a nursery and eventually leading restoration efforts.

The work will be based out of the field sites in Maharashtra and would involve occasional travel to other field sites in the Western Ghats.

Location: southern Maharashtra (Kolhapur, Satara, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg Districts)

Start Date: December 2021

Background: This project aims to restore ecologically critical, degraded patches of private and community forests in the Sahyadris, southern Maharashtra. We plan to achieve this by securing local community and private partnerships to ecologically restore landscapes, thereby contributing to the conservation of native biodiversity. If you like plants and want to be at the forefront of starting a new forest restoration project, do consider applying. The different responsibilities are listed below:

Vegetation sampling across sites
Establishing and maintaining a native plant nursery
Data collection and management
Assist in coordinating other research activities
Management of the field research station

Basic Requirements:

Bachelors/Masters degree
Conversant with spreadsheets, documents and presentations
Good interpersonal skills
Good human resource management skills
Enthusiasm for intensive fieldwork
Indian Citizenship

Desired:

Experience in ecological research/fieldwork
Experience in team management
Bachelors/Masters degree in Biology/ Wildlife Science/ Forestry/ Conservation
Knowledge of basic statistics (and using R)
Spoken communication in Marathi, Hindi and English
Ability to drive 2/4-wheeler with valid driving license
Keen interest in plants and knowledge of or eagerness to learn plant identification
