Regional Officer (Kolkata)
Basic Functions of the position
Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, the incumbent is responsible for supervising the Fulbright-Nehru & other Fulbright programs and the EducationUSA program in the Kolkata region. This includes developing a robust network of contacts at educational institutions and other suitable institutions, maintaining a robust relationship with other stakeholders, managing outreach in the region to promote USIEF’s visibility and build a vibrant USIEF community in the region, and supervising and building an effective team in the office.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Promote the Fulbright and EducationUSA Programs
- Promote the Fulbright Fellowships and the EducationUSA services in the Kolkata region in line with USIEF’s core mission statement and annual priorities; deliver an agreed number of high impact programs from concept and planning through to evaluation and reporting.
- Author media plans and implement in coordination with the Press Information Officer in the U.S. Consulate to publicize the Fulbright programs. Develop innovative, high quality and timely communication materials. Write articles and/or support EducationUSA advisers to write for the media on U.S. higher education for Indian students.
- Work closely with the U.S. Consulates Office of Public Affairs to deliver quality programs featuring American Fulbright scholars and Indian and American Fulbright alumni.
- Submit the Annual Work Plan for the Kolkata office in line with USIEF’s goals and priorities.
- Write quality reports with built in analysis for all internal requirements as agreed (Weekly, Newsletter, Annual Report), for publications, newspapers, website(s) and contribute effectively by participation in any other forum as appropriate.
2. Supervise Fulbright – Nehru and other Fulbright Programs in the region including:
- Publicize the Fulbright Fellowships for Indian citizens throughout the region.
- Organize/participate in the screening and selection process of Indian Fulbright Fellowship applications.
- Keep up to date with the Indian Fulbright alumni, track important achievements to include in internal reports, newsletters and for use on social media to highlight Fulbright achievements, engage alumni in outreach and other programs in line with USIEF priorities for the year and build a robust alumni network in the region.
- Identify potential host institutions for American scholar affiliations in the region and proactively identify problems in affiliation or other related issues.
- Support the arrival of American scholars in the region, and help them acclimatize to life in India and provide support throughout their stay in India as required to ensure their well-being.
- Execute programs around the American scholars and Indian alumni.
- Set-up and/or contribute to pre-departure orientations for Indian Fulbright scholars, arrival orientations for American Fulbright scholars, and other workshops/conferences at the regional/national level.
3. Supervise the EducationUSA Program at the regional level including:
- Conduct and ensure a regular line up of innovative group sessions and individual counseling on U.S. higher education.
- Conducts thematized workshops and programs to fit in with the EducationUSA advising model, and U.S. university application cycle.
- Organize U.S. higher education fairs and plan an effective publicity campaign using innovative low-cost strategies.
- Network with educational institutions in the region for promoting educational advising.
- Ensure a well-maintained library and online resources for students at the center.
- Supervise the EducationUSA team in the region.

Minimum Requirements
- Advanced degree in a relevant field with a demonstrable interest in the higher education sector.
- At least five (5) years of professional/supervisory experience and increasing responsibility in international higher education or a related field.
Desired:
- Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a relevant field.
- 10 years of professional/supervisory experience in international higher education or a related field.
- Experience in leading, managing and developing a staff of international education professionals or professionals in a multicultural environment.
- Significant experience living, teaching and/or working abroad.
Skills Required
