Recruitment of Scientists KSCSTE-Malabar Botanical Garden & Institute for Plant Sciences (KSCSTE-MBGIPS) is an institution of the Government of Kerala, administered by the Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), dedicated to the conservation and research on aquatic plant diversity, lower group plants, endangered plants of the erstwhile Malabar Region, as well as disseminating knowledge on various facets of plant sciences. 

To consolidate our position and to prepare for the emerging challenges in these areas, we invite dynamic and talented Scientists who are actively pursuing research in selected disciplines, to join us. KSCSTE-MBGIPS offers the CSIR scales of pay and other benefits as sanctioned by Government of Kerala for time to time. 

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, innovative and young Indian researchers having excellent academic record and proven scientific achievements to fill up the following scientific positions:

SB/01/20 22 [Taxonomy of Angiosperms (Aquatic)] 1 

Essential 
1. M.Sc. Botany/ Plant Science/Applied Plant Science 
2. Ph.D. in Botany in the areas of Plant Taxonomy/ Biosystematics/ Plant Exploration/ Conservation of Biodiversity of Angiosperms / aquatic angiosperms 

Desirable

1. Research experience in aquatic plant diversity documentation, assessment and conservation 
2. Morphological/ chemical/ molecular characterization of plant resources supported by publications in top ranked peer reviewed journals 
3. Strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding. 

Job Specifications

1. To undertake floristic surveys, explorations for the bio-diversity assessment, GIS mapping, digitization, ex-situ conservation, bio-prospection and management of herbarium of aquatic angiosperms. 
2. Maintenance of conservatories and characterization.

SB/02/20 22 [Taxonomy of Cryptogams] 1 

Essential 

1. M.Sc. Botany/ Plant Science/Applied Plant Science 
2. Ph.D. in Botany in the areas of Systematics/ Conservation of Pteridophytes/ Bryophytes.

Desirable

1. Research experience in Pteridophyte/ Bryophyte diversity documentation, assessment and conservation. 
2. Morphological/ chemical/ molecular characterization etc 
3. Supported by publications in top ranked peer reviewed journals 
4. Strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding.

Job Specifications

1. To undertake floristic surveys for the biodiversity assessment and conservation, bio-prospection and management of herbarium of Pteridophytes/ Bryophytes and maintenance of conservatories.

SB/03/20 22 [Garden Management/ Horticulture/ Landscaping] 1 

Essential 

1. M.Sc. Botany/ Plant Science/Applied Plant Science/ Horticulture. 
2. Ph.D. in Botany/ Horticulture in the areas of Botanic Garden/ Horticulture/ Introduction, Domestication, Conservation and of Ornamental Plants. 

Desirable

1. Experience in Designing and development of conservatories/ establishment of Botanic Gardens. 
2. Preparation and execution of landscape plans/ R&D work on Threatened Plants / Ornamental Crops as evident from quality research publications 
3. Strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding. 

Job Specifications

1. Maintenance of Botanic Garden, R&D work on improvement and conservation of ornamental plants; DUS testing 
2. Germplasm collection, characterization and evaluation; Development of new varieties of ornamental crops; Preparation of landscape plans/drawings/ designs and undertake outreach activities such as skill development and training programmes.

SB/04/20 22 [Biodiversity/ Ecology] 1 

Essential 

1. M.Sc. Botany/ Plant Science/Applied Plant Science 
2. Ph.D. in Botany in the areas of Biodiversity/ Ecology/ Conservation Biology/Population Ecology 

Desirable

1. Research experience in aquatic plant diversity documentation, assessment and conservation/ ecological/ morphological/ chemical characterization supported by publications in top ranked peer reviewed journals. 
2. Strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding. 

Job Specifications

1. To carry out monitoring, assessment and management of habitats for aquatic and lower groups of plants; Research and technology development in the fields of biodiversity/ ecological / physiological and environmental modelling, climate change, pollutant toxicity, and plantpollution interaction etc. 
2. Restoration of habitats. Maintenance of conservatories and characterization. 

SB/05/20 [Plant 1 22 Biotechnology]

Essential 

1. M.Sc. Botany/Plant Sciences/ Applied Plant Sciences/Plant Biotechnology 
2. Ph.D. in Botany/Plant Biotechnology with specialisation in plant molecular phylogeny, Plant Tissue Culture etc

Desirable

1. Practical working experience in Molecular biology, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Cell/ Tissue Culturing, Tissue banking, in vitro secondary 
2. Metabolite production and genetic transformation especially in aquatic plants. 
3. Strong potential for securing and sustaining independent and collaborative extramural funding.

Job Specifications

1. Develop and perform tissue culture methodologies for production of high value ornamental aquatic plants within the decided time scale, mass production of medicinal aquatic plants etc. Mentor junior lab members and provide training wherever necessary and to organise training programmes in Tissue Culture, troubleshoot problems that occur in the tissue culture pipelines and develop effective solutions, Coordinate with various government departments/funding agencies for future certification/funding opportunities
