Inviting applications for Project Positions DATE: July 18, 2022 

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for filling up the purely temporary positions of (1) One Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I in the NIPGR Short-Term Fellowship (STRF), and (2) One Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I in the DBT Multi-institutional project “Characterization of chickpea germplasm resource to accelerate genomics-assisted crop improvement”, under mission programme of “Characterization of genetic resources”, under the supervision of Dr. Senthil-Kumar Muthappa, Scientist, NIPGR. 

Emoluments would be as per Institute/DST & DBT norms. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

(1) Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I under STRF (One Post): Candidates having Master’s degree in Plant science/Agriculture/life sciences with at least 55% (or equivalent) can apply. The candidate is required to have sound theoretical knowledge in plant-stress biology and excellent scientific writing skills. Subject comprehension in the area of plant responses to combined stresses and experience of using large-scale text mining techniques are preferred. The project involves mining and curation of literature, retrieval/analysis of desired information for the development of ‘plant combined stress’ database. 

(2) Junior Research Fellow/Project Associate-I under chickpea mission project (One Post): Candidates having Master’s degree in bioinformatics/computational biology/statistics/mathematics/Agriculture/life sciences with at least 55% (or equivalent) marks can apply. This project involves screening chickpea germplasm for dry root rot disease (DRR). 

The project work requires skills for image analysis for disease detection/assessment (neural network/deep learning) and digital disease scoring (computer vision/machine learning/Python), and other related works. Experience in database/online platform development (HTML/CSS scripting, MySQL/PHP/Javascript, R and fluency in linux) is preferred. 

For both the positions of JRF/PA-I, candidates with NET and also those who qualify as per the criteria mentioned in the DST Office Memorandum number SR/S9/Z-08/2018 dated January 30, 2019 and SR/S9/Z-05/2019 dated July 10, 2020 are eligible to apply. The upper age limit for PA-I will be 35 years. The above positions are completely on temporary basis and co-terminus with the project. The fellowship/emolument amount for the above positions are as sanctioned in the project and as per NIPGR/DBT/DST norms. The initial appointment will be for one year or till the tenability of the project whichever is earlier and the same can be curtailed/extended on the basis of assessment of the candidate's performance and discretion of the Competent Authority. 

NIPGR reserves the right to select the candidate against the above post depending upon the qualification and experience of the candidate. Reservation of posts shall be as per Govt. of India norms. The appointment may be terminated any time by giving one month notice by either side. The applicants will have no claim implicit or explicit for consideration against any regular position of NIPGR.

Incomplete application and lack of supporting educational/experience certificates will be rejected. The candidates must ascertain their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed. Candidate may submit separate applications, if applying for both the positions.
