Vacancy for Research Personnel under Projects Application deadline: 12-Dec-2022
Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India wishes to engage the following research personnel (Indian national only) on purely temporary basis. JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW (JRF)/ JUNIOR RESEARCH BIOLOGIST (JRB) – 01 POSITION
• Project Title: Taxonomic characterization of select Galliformes of India using feather morphometrics and DNA for application in wildlife forensics (Duration- 02 Years; Project PI- Dr. Ashutosh Singh)
• Essential Qualifications: Masters’ degree with minimum 55% marks in Forensic Science/ Biotechnology/ Biological Science/ Life Science/ Genetics/ Genetic Engineering or any other related subject from a recognized University.
• Desirable: Research experience in a reputed institute/laboratory having working knowledge of wildlife research methodologies and forensic applications using morphological and/or DNA based species identification. Candidate with NET/GATE qualification will be given preference.
• Upper Age limit as on 12-Dec-2022 : 28 Years
• Fellowship: Rs. 31000 + 16% HRA (AS JRF for NET/ GATE candidates)or Rs. 25,000 + HRA (As JRB for non NET/GATE Candidates)
• Description of Work: To work in developing protocols for the identification of Galliformes species based on DNA & morphological features (especially feathers) and writing reports under the supervision of the PI
JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW – 01 POSITION
• Project Title: Ecological assessment of endemic and threatened laughingthrushes of the Western Ghats to develop conservation plan for securing their population and habitats (Duration- 1.5 years; Project PI- Dr. S. Babu & Dr. R. Jayapal)
• Essential Qualifications: Masters’ Degree in Zoology / Wildlife Science / Wildlife Biology/ Environmental Science/Life Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks
• Desirable: Research experience on birds of southern Western Ghats
• Upper Age limit as on 12-Dec-2022 : 28 years
• Fellowship: Rs. 25,000 +HRA
• Description of Work: The selected candidate is expected to undertake extensive field surveys in the high-elevation regions of the southern Western Ghats for the laughingthrushes and assist the Principal Investigators in other project activities

The final selection will be through an Interview to be conducted for the shortlisted candidates (Exact date, time and mode of interviews will be intimated to the shortlisted candidates by email)
If selected, all original documents in support of qualifications, age, experience etc. should be produced by the candidate for verification before joining SACON. The hard copies of the filled-in application form along with self-attested true copies of all supporting documents should also be submitted at the time of joining.
GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
Candidates applying for the above positions should possess all the essential Qualifications (with originals of supporting documents) as on the date of application deadline.
A candidate can apply for maximum of two advertised positions only. Candidates applying for two positions should submit separate sets of applications and attachments.
The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Challenged categories as per applicable Central Government norms.
Selected candidates will be provided hostel accommodation at SACON as per availability. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel will be admissible as per the rules.
