Bioinformatics Postdoc Opening @ NISER Bhubaneswar

Applications from Indian/ Foreign Citizens are invited for a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) position at the AichLab in School of Biological Science of National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar. 

QUALIFICATION: PhD degree in Bioinformatics or related areas. 

Preference will be given to the candidate with 

 Interests in applying knowledge to high-impact translatable biological research 
 Interests in solving advanced biological problems and networking, is required 
 Hands-on experience on AI-ML, python, and R, knowledge and expertise in CSS is desirable 
 Understanding of univariate and multivariate statistics and statistical packages is essential, 
 Knowledge in handling and dealing with data for correlation and regression would be a plus 
 Prior knowledge in handling various omics (transcriptomics, metagenomics, metabolomics) and image processing would be an asset 
 Interests in crunching a lot of data and being able to make quick prototypes. 

RESEARCH AREAS: The Aich Lab (https://www.niser.ac.in/users/palokaich) focuses on understanding the role of the intestinal microbiome on the gut-adipocyte-brain axis. For this industry-funded project, we plan to establish host metabolome markers to identify individuals' metagenome profiles. The work would also involve the identification of novel probiotics and their prophylactic or therapeutic roles. 

Knowledge of essential bioinformatics would be a plus. People with experience and interest in these areas with a strong desire for innovative research are preferred. The job involves but not limited to a) collection of clinical samples under the supervision of Clinical collaborators from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, b) processing of samples for downstream experiments and analysis. FELLOWSHIP: As per existing rules of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Govt. of India The positions are purely temporary. The appointment is made for a period of One Year at a time and extendable to a maximum tenure of two years upon satisfactory academic performance. The selected postdoctoral fellow is expected to work with Aichlab research group at
