Applications for the Ph.D. Programme at UM-DAE CEBS
for the Academic Year 2023–2024
University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS) was
established in 2007 on the Kalina campus of the University of Mumbai to impart high-quality education in Basic
Sciences (starting with Integrated M.Sc.) after the 10 + 2 (or equivalent) level of schooling, in a vibrant academic
ambience.
UM-DAE CEBS invites applications from eligible candidates for the Ph.D. programme in the below mentioned
schools:
04 Biological Sciences
Master’s degree in Physics/Chemistry (General, Inorganic, Organic, Physical,
Biochemistry or Material Chemistry)/Mathematics (with strong background in
Algebra, Topology and Analysis)/Biology (Life Sciences, Microbiology,
Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry) with at
least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point
scale (or an equivalent grade in point scale wherever grading system has
been followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign education institution.
Only those intending to pursue the programme on a full-time basis should
apply.
A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of
grade will be allowed for those belonging to reserved categories/differently
abled and other categories of candidates as per the policies of the Govt of
Maharashtra.
Age limit: The candidate should be born on or after 1 January of the year
1997 (for general category students) or 1993 (for reserved category students).
Qualification in UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF or LS)/SLET/GATE/NBHM/JEST/DBTBET/PET conducted by the University of Mumbai/Teachers’ Fellowship
examinations is an essential eligibility criterion. Selection will be made based
on the results of a written test and/or an interview conducted by CEBS.
Selected candidates will be given a DAE scholarship for the first 2 years as
JRF followed by next 3 years as SRF subject to the satisfactory performance.
Selected candidates with their own fellowship from DBT, DST (INSPIRE),
UGC/CSIR/NBHM for their Ph.D. programme may avail these during their
tenure of Ph.D.
Candidates will be awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree of the University of Mumbai in Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics, Applied Biology or Life Sciences after successful completion of the programme in
corresponding school. Candidates enrolled in the Ph.D. programme will be bound by the rules and regulations of the
Ph.D. programme of UM-DAE CEBS (https://www.cbs.ac.in/academics/manual-for-phd-students).
