Job Title: Senior Research Fellow – Computational Biology Proteomics & Metabolomics
Job Location: India, Coimbatore
About Organization
Ganga Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation (GOREF) has been established in 2002, with the vision towards applying a ‘system biology’ and ‘multiomics’ approach focused on translational medical research. GOREF is located Southern India’s Industrial hub Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India in a five acres research campus at the Northern part of the city. The facility offers an integrated state-of-the-art laboratory spanning proteomics, genomics and computational biology, that is networked with clinical research partnership with 850 bedded Ganga Medical Center and Hospitals, Coimbatore. Key research focus today has been in the areas of clinical proteomics with a focus on spinal disk disease, metagenomics and biomarker discovery.
About Team: Proteomics and computational informatics
The clinical proteomics team pioneered the use of high-throughput proteomics, tin unravel the disease biology and progression of spinal disk disease and lead the application of LC/MS-MS based approached to probe the clinical proteome. The team has state-of-art sample preparation, and mass-spectrometry facility with integrated data analysis. Toward scaling translation objectives we would seek computational biologist with a passion to translate data into insight, who is familiar with protein mass-spectrometry data analysis
Role & Responsibilities
Purpose: - To work closely with the high-throughput clinical proteomics group and contribute in the design and development clinical studies and derive novel insights from protein mass-spectrometry data. The ideal candidate would be proficient in setting up computational environment, database and software for protein mass-spectroscopy. The candidate should have proven work experience (evidenced by publication, grants, research) to have applied mass-spectroscopy data biological discovery. To perform data analysis, the candidate would be well versed in use of state-of-art software and databases (MaxQuant, Andromeda, Protein Discovery etc), proficient in scripting with Python and statistical analysis with R. To role requires candidate to be rigorous in scientific planning and execution of data analysis, document and report data suitable for publication and research data dissimilation. Fluency in verbal and written English communication is highly desired.
Responsibilities:
Proficiency in setting up and use of Linux operating system and Windows environment; including setting up configuration of software and batch scripting with command line tools on standalone and as servers.
Proficiency in scripting with Python/R-scripting to configure computational data analysis pipelines and perform exploratory data analysis as required to fulfill project objectives
Use of open-source tools/licensed tools and software for data analysis of protein data
Interrogating public data at local server and use of AWS to support high through put data annotation
Proficient in scientific data reporting and graphing using R-packages or python modules such as (ggplot2, colorbrewer etc)
Compilation and presentation of research data in written and presentation formats suitable for grants, project proposal, and publication/presentation.
Regular data management and recording results into data sheets and/or notebooks is a job requirement. Familiarity with use of spreadsheets, creation of database web/data repositories highly desired.
Delivery of design robust data analysis, generate high-quality results, attention to detail and schedules to support program objectives.
Inputs on troubleshooting and involvement to drive new research initiatives.
Candidate Requirement:
Education & Experience levels:
Applicants should have Masters with 3+ years’ work experience OR Ph.D in biochemistry, molecular biology with experience in protein mass-spectroscopy and data analysis
Nature of experience:
Work experience in support of relevant skills such as publications, project reports or thesis work
Skills:
Familiar with working in proteomics facility, with experience analysis of mass-spectroscopy data, (label free, SILAC, TMT/iTRAQ data), analysis of protein modification and metabolomics.
Deep understanding software pipelines and tools, databases for mass-spectroscopy. Ideally familiar with data from Thermo Fisher Scientific instruments.
