For admission to Ph.D.– 2024
(Candidate must ensure that they fulfil minimum essential qualification)
The Banaras Hindu University offers admission to Doctor of Philosophy/Vidyāvāridhi Degree (herein after
referred to as the Ph.D. Degree programme) in various disciplines as per details given in Section–B, Table–1.
A. Admission to the Ph.D. Programs will be made through the following modes
1.
a) Research Entrance Test-Exempted (RET -Exempted):
Only those candidates are eligible for admission to Ph.D. programmes through RETExempted mode:
(i) who have qualified for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of UGC/CSIR, Indian
Council of Medical Research (ICMR),Department of Biotechnology (DBT) or any
other national agency.
(ii) who is otherwise eligible for direct mode of admission
Note:
(a) For details on direct mode of admission refer to Section G of this information
Bulletin.
(b) Candidates will have to appear in interview with 100% weightage and their selection
will be based on their performance in the interview.
(c) Candidates who have been awarded Lectureship/Assistant Professorship (without
JRF) in the UGC/CSIR examination, awarded any other fellowship on the basis of
UGC/CSIR NET examination and DST INSPIRE fellows are not eligible under this
mode of admission.
(d) Candidates shall produce valid JRF certificate at the time of physical verification of
the documents failing which their candidature shall be cancelled.
b) Research Entrance Test (RET):
Applications for admission to Ph.D. Programmes through NET Examination of UGC/CSIR
and ASRB using NET Exam June 2024/ARSB Exam 2024 score are invited from eligible
candidates as under:
(i) Category 1: JRF qualified candidates,
(ii) Category 2: Candidates qualified for Assistant Professorship without JRF and
(iii) Category 3: Candidates neither qualified for JRF nor for Assistant Professorship
but eligible for admission to Ph.D. only.
(iv) For admission to the Ph.D. programme in Institute of Agricultural Sciences, the
NET score of the Agricultural Services Recruitment Board (ASRB) Examination
2024 shall be used.
Note:
(a) Admission under RET mode will include score of NET Examination of UGC/CSIR
June 2024, in place of the entrance examination as per UGC Public Notice dated
March 27, 2024, and score obtained in the interview. The weightage for NET score
and for interview will be 70% and 30% respectively for preparing the merit list for
admission. The same weightage of marks will apply for ASRB score for admission in
the Institute of Agricultural Sciences.
(b) Only the scores of NET Examination of June, 2024 of UGC/CSIR/ASRB shall be
taken into account for admission to Ph.D Programmes for the academic year 2024-
25.
